Part 1 Understanding your work[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

To implement our proposed activities, we organized a photowalk that spanned several towns in Northern, Volta, central, and western parts of Ghana. This event received support from the local Wikimedia community. We ensured the involvement of both newly recruited volunteers and existing editors by providing them with training on uploading audio-visual content to Wikimedia Commons. Subsequently, we conducted a photo contest, where participants were encouraged to upload the resources they captured during the photowalk onto Wikimedia Commons. Recognition was given to the top three photos through an award ceremony.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

1. The introduction of prizes motivated people to upload quality images.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

Some students from the Volta Region of Ghana where happy to be part of Wiki Loves Africa contest because they had their first hand on uploading pictures on Wikimedia commons.

Part 2: Your main learning[edit]

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

During this period, I have focused on my learning priorities regarding the contribution of human activities to climate and weather change. Through engaging with people, I have gained valuable insights into their thoughts on the causes of climate and weather change and the potential for education to address it. I have also explored the effectiveness of using pictures to educate individuals and identify activities that contribute to these changes. This period has provided me with a deeper understanding of the role of human actions, public perspectives, and educational approaches in mitigating climate and weather change

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

IP block was a major factor depriving new participants from uploading pictures and also creating accounts. In the next contest, participants user names will be created for they before the main training and upload section. But at the end of day they were happy to learn some new.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

With the knowledge I have gained, I aim to leverage these learnings to enhance existing Wikimedia projects. The images will be added to articles and items that are lacking images.Furthermore, I will be creating engaging content, organising outreach initiatives, and fostering partnerships to further amplify the impact of Wikimedia projects in combating climate and weather change.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
