- 6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)
The change my team and I aim to bring to Wiki Loves Africa is a more engaged and educated community of content creators who contribute meaningfully to open knowledge platforms like Wikimedia. The main challenges we’re addressing include: Lack of Knowledge on Creative Commons Licensing: Many creatives don’t understand how to properly share their work under Creative Commons.
Limited Access to High-Quality Training: Aspiring creators often lack industry-standard training and mentorship.
Fragmented Community and Networking: There are few opportunities for regional networking and collaboration.
Cultural Representation: African content on Wikimedia is often underrepresented.
The Approaches that we wish to change are: Masterclasses and Workshops: We’ll organize training on content creation and Creative Commons licensing to bridge the knowledge gap and ensure legally compliant, high-quality submissions.
Partnerships with Industry Leaders: By collaborating with experienced creators, we’ll offer hands-on workshops to elevate the quality of content and provide mentorship.
Regional Meetups and Networking: We’ll host events where creators can connect, share feedback, and collaborate, building a supportive community.
Interactive Exhibitions: Showcasing top entries will raise awareness about the contest and educate the public about open knowledge.
Localized Content using the 2025 Theme: We’ll promote our activities using this coming year's theme: Farm To Plate, encouraging creators to document and submit their works and content on the platform.
Gamification and Incentives: By adding competitive elements and prizes, we’ll motivate participants to submit their best work.
These approaches will help create a more inclusive, well-supported Wiki Loves Africa, empowering local creators and increasing the representation of African culture on Wikimedia.

- 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)
The target participants for the Wiki Loves Africa event are members of the Enugu creative community, primarily consisting of students and passionate creatives. These individuals seek a platform to showcase their work, properly license and protect their intellectual property, and join a supportive creative community.
Before the event, we will engage participants through online campaigns and introductory webinars, introducing them to the event and educating them on how to prepare their submissions. We will also collaborate with local influencers and creative groups to drive participation. During the event, we will offer interactive workshops on content creation, licensing, and portfolio building, along with collaborations with industry experts to provide guidance. Participants will also have access to networking opportunities both in-person and online.
After the event, we will follow up with post-event surveys to gather feedback and improve future activities. We will provide continued mentorship, offering further resources and connections. Participants will stay engaged through a dedicated online platform for sharing work, collaborating, and receiving feedback, while also receiving recognition through social media.

We discussed the idea for this year’s Wiki Loves Africa event with our community members through a series of informal meetings and online discussions. We involved our team and community in planning, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and mutual growth. The enthusiasm from our team members has been strong, with everyone eager to continue giving back to our community. We also hope to align our activities with other ongoing creative projects in Enugu to foster collaboration and ensure broader participation.
