Grant Proposal[edit]

M. Please state the title of your proposal. This will also be the Meta-Wiki page title.

Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in the Philippines

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Local

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Through Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in the Philippines photography contest, it will bridge knowledge gaps in terms of media resource on the country's rich natural heritage. Outreach activities to reach and engage new and existing contributors as well as tapping the local government agencies that will later become partners in promoting free knowledge.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

The influence of social media has proven to be significant in campaigns targeting the desired audience and prospected participants. Through Facebook which is arguably the most popular social media in the country, as well as through the use of the global campaign banner shown in Wikimedia sites, audience reach is maximized. However without outreach activities on the ground, the campaign is disconnected with the actual experience of engaging the participants, involving volunteers, as well as tapping relevant institutions for sustaining the campaign in the future. Outreach activities include photo walks, photography workshops, article writing, adding images sessions, and collaborations with photographers and relevant government agencies.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

There will be one landing page in Meta for the competition. Activities for promotion such as photo walks before the competition will be conducted. Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in the Philippines competition will run from July-August 2023. A dedicated Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/WikiLovesEarthPH) page will be utilized for the campaign.

There will be winners (Top 15 finalists) for the photography competition and one special prize winner for the most number of quality photos contributed. At least three photo walks will be conducted, involving different participants and photographers, one editing session, and collaborating with at least one relevant government agency.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Wiki Loves Earth

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

Wiki Loves Philippines Team includes Maffeth Opiana, Marife Altabano, and Irvin Sto. Tomas; with the technical support of local and global Wikipedians who have been helping our past campaigns.

6. Please state if your proposal aims to work to bridge any of the identified CONTENT knowledge gaps (Knowledge Inequity)? Select up to THREE that most apply to your work.

Geography, Language, Other global topics for impact (topics considered to be of global importance)

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

The campaign will result to uploading freely licensed, and high quality images of natural heritages of the Philippines on Wikimedia Commons as well as engaging new and existing contributors through photo walks, edit-a-thons and trainings in nature photography.

7. Please state if your proposal includes any of these areas or THEMATIC focus. Select up to THREE that most apply to your work and explain the rationale for identifying these themes.

Climate Change and sustainability, Diversity

8. Will your work focus on involving participants from any underrepresented communities?

Geographic , Age

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

We have a growing community of photography enthusiasts and contributors on Commons involved in organizing similar activities in the past. We also have experiences in connecting with local photographers and individuals who are interested in taking part in the photo contests. Through collaborations with existing local contributors and networking with global Wikipedians, organizing has become easier and fun!

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

Friendly Space Policy will be observed in in-person activities and online sessions.

11. Please tell us about how you have let your Wikimedia communities know about the planned activities and this proposal. Use this space to describe the processes you carried out to make the community more involved in planning this proposal. Please link the on-wiki community discussion(s) around the proposals.

The proposal will be shared with community members in relevant talk pages and social media groups.

12. Are you aware of other Rapid Fund proposals in your local group, community, or region that are being submitted and that align with your proposed project?

Yes

If yes:

12.1 Did you explore the possibility of doing a joint proposal with other leaders in your group?
No
12.2 How will this joint proposal allow you to have better results?
N/A
13. Will you be working with other external, non-Wikimedia partners to implement this proposal? Required.

Yes

13.1 Please describe these partnerships and what motivates the potential partner to be part of the proposal and how they add value to your work.

Individual local and global Wikipedians, photography groups and government agencies harmonize well as each has a role to play in the success of the campaign. Technical support extended by seasoned contributors proved to be important as with the creativity and skills of the photographers who will become new Wikipedians. Support from the government agencies and other partners give the campaign a boost for public interest and legitimacy.

14. In what ways do you think your proposal most contributes to the Movement Strategy 2030 recommendations. Select a maximum of THREE options that most apply.

Manage Internal Knowledge, Innovate in Free Knowledge
