This project aims to unite a diverse group of over 60 newly recruited educators, including education directors, officers, and teachers, to contribute images, videos, and audios of Ghana's rich cultural folklore to Wikimedia Commons and local language Wikipedias. The current trend where the viewership and use of contents of the local Wikipedias keeps reducing is a worrying situation for me. It makes no sense to create and dumb knowledge on the Wikipedias which are not being utilized. I think it is so because the right people are not being involved in the process and there hasn't been enough and appropriate advocacy approaches to promote the acceptance and utilization of the information put on the Wikipedias. By empowering educators, the project seeks to create a sense of ownership and leverage their influence to integrate locally created content into educational institutions and society at large. A significant challenge is the absence of images in many articles on indigenous traditions due to a lack of contributions to Wikimedia Commons. Educators, through their teaching experiences, possess unique knowledge about where relevant cultural materials can be sourced. This project equips them with the skills to effectively contribute to Wikimedia projects, and enrich the knowledge repository with valuable resources that complement teaching and learning materials. The campaign focuses on changing the narrative by involving educators as key contributors to documenting indigenous folk cultures and women in folklore, especially those from marginalized groups in Ghana's northern regions. This approach also aims to address the gender gaps prevalent in local Wikipedias. The project will collaborate with 3-4 Ghanaian language Wikipedias, encouraging participants to contribute to Wikipedia they are most comfortable with, including incubator projects like Likpakpa Wikipedia.
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
Workshops: We will organize workshop training sessions to introduce the over 80 new participants to Wikimedia Commons and build on the knowledge of existing users. We will also train participants on how to create Wikipedia articles for the various places we have visited and add relevant references in their respective language Wikipedias.
Photowalks: We will embark on a photowalk to capture photos of folklore in which the Ghanaian Educators Community members and other marginalized groups like the Anuful and Likpakpa members will participate. Three (3) photo walks will be embarked on with a maximum of twenty (25) people participating in each walk.
Feminism and Folklore Contest
We will also organize a 2 months edit-a-thon contest (Feb 1 - March 31) to create at least 100+ Wikipedia articles and Wikidata items related to feminism and folklore to the Likpakpa incubator and over 300 articles each to the live Wikipedias such as the Dagbani, Moore and others by the Educators who belong to these languages.
The articles must be of minimum readable prose of about 100 words or roughly 3 sentences.
The Wikipedia article must have at least 4 references.

- 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)
The target participants are members of the Ghanaian Educators Wikimedia Community. They are a diverse groups who shall be contributing content to the various language Wikipedias (both live and incubators) in Ghana depending on the language and ethic groups they belong to. They will be engaged on the talk and meta discussion pages and social media platforms especially WhatsApp which is commonly used in Ghana. The “thank you” to contributors in their edit history shall be utilized for editors to feel appreciated and valued and to stay motivated to keep contributing.
It may come as a surprise but the Educators Community members who are made up of education leaders and teachers are very new to most Wikimedia projects despite the efforts of other usergroups and affiliates. Less than 10% of the speakers have heard of Wikipedia as a tool to promote, digitize, and revitalize languages via its sister projects. We will leverage the power of the education leadership for spaces in their forums to engage more with participants on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata and to recruit more volunteers into the Movement.
We will keep participants more engaged in a variety of ways as the prevailing opportunity may demand so that we will have several choices to choose from. We will be doing periodic Editathons on Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and using tools like the ISA campaign and other quick editing tools such as quick statements, Wikimedia Commons games among others to vary the interest.
