1.Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda – Board Member -secretary Role Description: As a board member , Im responsible for providing strategic guidance, oversight, and governance to the organization. and ensure the organization adheres to Wikimedia’s mission, manages resources effectively, and supports community initiatives. I represent the organization in official matters and help in decision-making processes at the board level.

2.Wikimedia User Group Uganda – Group Leader (submitted to Affiliation Committee) Role Description: As a group leader, I have coordinated and managed the activities of the Wikimedia User Group. I lead community engagement initiatives, organize events, and facilitate participation in Wikimedia projects. I serve as the main point of contact between the group and the Wikimedia Foundation or Affiliation Committee.

3.Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda – Bank Account Signatory Role Description: As a bank account signatory, i authorize to manage and oversee financial transactions for the organization’s joint bank account. 6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

We have a challenge of contributors uploading few and low quality image, which is due to the limited accessibility to gadgets used to capture the content. This has made our community fail to compete globally with other contributors who upload many quality images forexample India and Bangladesh.

If we are given the grant we are planning to set up and support more photo hunts and also purchase one gadget dedicated to capturing Wiki Loves Folklore images.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

1. Photography training for new photographers on how to capture good quality images. (a). Photo editing training. Training contributors on how best to edit their raw images to look better before uploading them on commons. (b). Photography training during office hours especially for women photographers and other interested volunteers. 2. Photo hunts ( 10+ people financed to take photos from different regions of the country. 3. Marketing the campaign to gain momentum and attract more volunteers. This will be done through;

(a). Advertising on social media platforms
(b). Material visibility forexample swag.
(c). Mentions on either TV or Radio.

Kwera Faith Kwera Faith is the project team lead for Wiki Loves Folklore in Uganda. She has served as the Jury coordinator for Wiki Loves Monuments,Earth and Africa in Uganda since 2021 to date.She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the wikimedia community usergroup as secretary.Having joined in 2020 as a voluteer,she prides her self in taking up the leadership mantle in the community.

Kasozi Denis Denis is the co team lead for Wiki Loves Folklore in Uganda.

Tamale Drake Tamdra is the project Finance and accountability lead for Wiki Loves Folklore in Uganda

B722N B722N has been a member of the Wikimedia Community since March 2021 and he contributes to various Wikimedia Projects which include the English Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and the Luganda Wikipedia. He is a project lead for Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos in Uganda

Alvinategyeka Alvinategyeka is the Events Coordinator for Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Uganda

Fiktube Fiktube is a photographer and a graphics designer. And he is handling communications and marketing of this project.

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

We are targerting women photographers especially who are maginalised due to many stereo types in Uganda.

On the issue of engaging participants, we plan to use more of whatsapp and telegram since it is the most commonly used platform in our community and the information can be seen easily. We plan to have mentions on TV and radio to pull more volunteers who may not be in our our whatsapp groups. We shall also engage them through office hours during the activities.

After the activities we plan to continue keeping in touch with all the participants through organizing a closing physical event to award the best contributors. We also plan to keep interacting on our whatsapp and telegram groups.

The steps we took to discuss the idea of the project with our community members are as below (this discussion was on our whatsapp group) ;

Introduced the Idea: Shared the project concept during regular Wikimedia User Group Uganda meetings and asked for initial feedback.

Collected Suggestions: Community members proposed which local folklore themes and traditions to focus on, and shared ideas for workshops, photography walks, and content collection.

Reviewed Feedback: Went through all suggestions with members and agreed on a project plan that reflects the community’s interests.

Ongoing Engagement: Kept members updated on milestones, tasks, and participation opportunities throughout the campaign.
