The project spanned two months, from July to September 2025, resulting in 253 articles improved and 219 pictures uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

You can learn more about the project here.

https://diff.wikimedia.org/2025/10/09/expanding-coverage-of-owo-cultural-heritage-on-wikimedia-projects-2-0/

After the project, I saw the need to diversify and broaden the documentation of Owo cultural heritage on Wikimedia after observing that the retained participants are from Achievers University, the Wiki Owo Fellowship is a leadership and capacity building of participants across different higher institutions in Owo, for instance Rufus Giwa Polytechnic will be included and inauguration of Owo cultural heritage fellows, the first of its kind in the community.

The following main approaches are designed for successful fellowship program of the Owo cultural heritage editors

1. Partnerships and Collaboration: We will collaborate with previous partners, Owo Cultural Group from Achievers University, Owo Local Government Area Students Union, and Owo Youth Network. We also aim to leverage the media to provide immense publicity to connect with potential participants before the project's implementation.

2. Call for Fellowship Applications: A call for applications will be announced across various Wikimedia User Group WhatsApp groups and we will leverage our social media platforms to share the information. This open call will encourage participation from targeted participants from different higher institutions in Owo.

3. Onboarding of Participants: A total of 30 participants will be onboarded, with priority given to individuals whose local government of origin is Owo and participants who can speak the local dialect of the community to broaden documentation of Owo cultural heritage. Participants will be introduced to various Wikimedia platforms and the expectations of fellowship.

4. Sustained Remote Mentorship and Peer Review: To support participants beyond the workshops, a structured mentorship system and peer review feedbacks using WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet and other support channels will be implemented to promote community-driven learning, and foster accountability.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found.
