Rapid Fund Final Report

Application type: Standard application

Part 1: Project and impact

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

Wiki Rato Activities consist of a series of wiki project training programs in the Madurese language, including Wikipedia Madurese Training, Madurese Wiktionary Training, and Madurese Wikisource Training. In addition, we conduct documentation of traditional Madurese cuisine as well as traditional attire of Madurese nobility and common people.

1. Wikimedia Commons Meet-up in Pamekasan and Bangkalan Regencies

This activity includes the documentation of traditional Madurese cuisine in both Pamekasan and Bangkalan Regencies. We also documented the traditional attire of the Madurese nobility and the people of Bangkalan Regency.

Effective approach: One of the alumni of the Madurese Wikipedia Training from the previous rapid grant (WikiLatèyan) is a member of the Dinasti Madura community. This community is composed of descendants of the royal families of West Madura. For this activity, we worked with Dinasti Madura to gather traditional attire of the Madurese nobility and the people of Bangkalan Regency and document them.

For the documentation of traditional Madurese cuisine, we invited members of the Wikimedia Community to participate in gathering information related to typical Madurese cuisine.

2. Madurese Wiktionary Training in Sumenep Regency

This activity provides training for beginners on how to add entries to the Madurese Wiktionary and learning how to use Madurese diacritics. It is the first event of its kind in Sumenep Regency. For this program, we collaborated with Kopri GulukGuluk and Madurese language teachers in Sumenep Regency.

3. Madurese Wikipedia in Surabaya and Bondowoso Regency This activity involves training on how to write on Madura Wikipedia and learning how to use Madurese diacritics in Surabaya and Bondowoso Regency. The program is designed for beginners. It is the first event of its kind in Surabaya and Bondowoso.

Effective approach: We collaborate with IMABA (Ikatan Mahasiswa Bata-Bata), FAMOUS (UINSA Students from Sumenep), and DEMA IAI AT-TAQWA Bondowoso.

4. Madurese Wikisource Training

This activity provides training on proofreading in Madura Wikisource and introduces Madurese books and templates available on the platform. It is the first event of its kind in Bangkalan Regency. Most participants are new users, while a small number are members of the Madura Wikimedia Community. The goal of the activity is to familiarize them with the project.

Effective approach: We worked in collaboration with HIMABA Bangkalan (Bangkalan Student Association) and the Annuqayah Alumni Association (IAA).

The technical implementation of the Wikilatih and Kopdar activities consists of the following stages:

1. Registration Registration is conducted openly through the Wikimedia Madura Community’s Instagram account in collaboration with relevant partners, and partly through an event registration platform. Participants complete the registration either via a Google Form or through the event registration system. Three days prior to the event (H-3), participants are added to a WhatsApp group to receive event-related information. The event registration platform also assists the organizing committee in tracking participants’ accounts and their contributions.

2. Event Implementation On the day of the event, participants complete on-site re-registration and receive souvenirs. Once the event begins, the trainer delivers the material and leads a hands-on writing practice session. Several outstanding participants receive special souvenir appreciation as a reward and as motivation to continue contributing after the event.

3. Evaluation and Closing During the final 10 minutes, participants complete an evaluation form. The event concludes with a group photo session, which will be used for reporting purposes and for social media posts of the Wikimedia Madura Community.

After the events, all participants who successfully completed the assigned tasks received an e-certificate.
