1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

In the past 2 years of organizing #WikiForHumanRights in the Philippines, we remain committed in increasing and improving neutral, fact-based, and current information on climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. Our aim is to address the lack of resources that are free, easy to understand and reliable. We believe that wiki platforms such as Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Commons, and Wiktionary among others are the best avenues to do that. Last year we've exceeded our target number of created and edited Wikipedia articles; trained new but dedicated editors; created improved video tutorials; involved past contributors to facilitate edithatons, orientations and photowalk; and tap external networks to provide us with on-the-ground information about the enviroment. This year we aim to continue what we've started with and improve on our weaknesses by addressing past feedback and recommendations (venue selection, data collation, report preparation, image upload system, video tutorial improvement). We also plan to include platforms such as Wikisambit and Wikawikaan as additional platforms to edit so that we can cater to the diverse interests and capabilities (design, video creation, arts, photography, language, translation, etc.) of our participants. This will also allow them to meet other volunteers that works on other wikiprojects apart from Wikipedia. Through this 3rd iteration of Wiki para sa Karapatan Pantawo, we forsee a larger and a more equipped set of volunteers that will advocate for free knowledge and the protection of the environment in a more creative and diverse ways.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

As we would like to see more diverse engagements, we decided to widen our scope in terms of platforms. Instead of focusing soley on Wikipedia, we would open contribution to other platforms such as Wiktionary, Wikisambit & Wikawikaan (Bikol & Tagalog edition of Wikiquote). There are three components to our approach for this project: skills and leadership development, advocacy, and content creation. 1) Skill development pertains to the training of new volunteer on how to navigate various wikiprojects and platforms. This also where they will be oriented on how the wiki community collaboratively works locally and internationally. 2) Advocacy refers to the theme of the campaign. This is where the participants knowledge on climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution will be deepened and enriched. 3) Content creation pertains to the activities wherein the participants contribute to wiki platforms of their choice as they are now equipped with the two components above. This could include editing, image upload, article creation, campaign promotion, etc.

Incorporating these 3 components will ensure that the impact of the project will touch on the cognitive, affective, and creative learning domains of the participants. We hope that this will have a lasting effect on them as persons and volunteers which push for free knowledge and the protection of the environment.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

We are targeting at least 10-20 new editors to participate in this campaign.

1) Skills development. This will include the orientations & trainings. Each session will start with an orientation which discusses wiki communities (local & international), Wikimedia Foundation, wiki projects (Wikipedia, Commons, Wikiquote etc.), and the #WikiForHumanRights campaign. This will be followed trainings on how to navigate and contribute to the platform. 2) Advocacy. After the orientation & training, an enrichment activity will follow. This can be in the form of a film/documentary show followed by sharings OR an envi talk from an invited resource person followed by a Q&A. This part of the session will ensure that participants are truly aware of the issues put forth by the campaign. 3) Content creation. This includes the edithaton, photowalk and info-material-making activities where they will create and upload their contributions to their chosen wiki platforms/projects. For Wikipedia, their task would be to translate articles from the topics list or improve existing articles. For Wikisambit & Wikawikaan, their task would be to translate quotes from notable environmentalists (local or international). For Commons, they may submit photos and info-drive materials.

To further motivate them, prizes will be to the best contributors for each genre.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Majority of them are Naga-based so assigning them to handle sessions would be feasible. Simcha4 - organizer of Wiki para sa Karapatan Pantawo 2022, contributor Bikol Wikipedia & Wiksyunaryo (Naga PH) Tinagoblumentritt - organizer of Wiki para sa Karapatan Pantawo 2022, contributor Bikol Wikipedia & Wiksyunaryo (Naga PH) Virusnecross - organizer of Wiki para sa Karapatan Pantawo 2022, contributor Bikol Wikipedia & Wiksyunaryo (Naga PH) Yska.iska - organizer of Wiki para sa Karapatan Pantawo 2022, contributor for Bikol Wikipedia (Calabanga, Camarines Sur PH)

The following will help in conducting sessions in additional 3 provinces & towns in the Philippines. They will help extend the reach of the project. They will be assisted by at least one main organizer to facilitate sessions. Maerui-sama - organizer of Wiki para sa Karapatan Pantawo 2022, contributor for Wiksyunaryo (Los Banos, Laguna PH) Kunokuno - organizer of Art+Feminism PH, SheSaid PH, Wikimania PH among others (Pasacao, Camarines Sur PH) Emmanuel Barrameda - contributor for Wikimedia Commons (Catanduanes PH)

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

While English is one of the official languages in the Philippines, majority of the Filipinos do not use or cannot comprehend it. Linguistic / Language, Socioeconomic status, Age

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

Our target participants for this project are the students, writers, artists, cultural workers, young professionals and environmental advocates. To better engage them, we have expanded the wiki platforms where they contribute. Those with skills in writing and translations can contribute to Wikipedia. While those who are visual and prefer less texts can contribute to Commons and Wikiquote. Handouts and video tutorials will be given to them in advance. Also, as we have realized in last year's evaluation, soliciting feedbacks from them after each activities allow us to adjust the flow according to their needs and capacities. This we plan to continue and improve on this year. We also plan to select venues that would set creative mood to make them enjoy each sessions.

After the activities, the participants will be automatically be invited in our group chat. There they meet and can talk with fellow volunteers. They will be also invited in meetups and other fun activities that we do.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

In all activities, we see to it the we abide with the Friendly Space Policy. We make sure that no offensive, racist, and sexist actions and speeches is present at all time. In case this happens, participants are advised report it immediately to the organizers. Apart from that, we believe that questions, comments and criticisms are important in order have a healthy team.
