1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Within the Nigerian community little is known about Wikidata and as a result, the contributions to this Wikimedia project have been limited to just a few active editors. Wikidata 10th Birthday will serve as an opportunity to bring about advocacy on using Wikidata which is the storage of structured data of the Wikimedia project, get information about the content policies and general principles and rules that guide editing on wikidata.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

The approach that will be employed are as follows; workshops and training for participants and edith-a-thons

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Day 1 of the celebration will focus on the workshop where participants will get to learn why a contribution to wikidata is vital for free knowledge, how participants can edit wikidata items by creating and improving content about people, places and organizations and participants will be exposed to the general principles, rules and core content policies guiding contributions to wikidata and the participants will get to do a mini edit-a-thon to practice what they have learnt. Day 2 will be the birthday party where participants will get to have fun and connect with fellow participants.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Contents about Nigeria on Wikimedia projects and Wikidata in particular are few due to less contributions from volunteers. This will be an opportunity to close some of the content gap of contents about Nigeria to increase the visibility of Nigerians online.

The participants will be drawn from students of the University of Ilorin and Kwara State University. Mosts of these students are already in the community of their respective universities and there has already been some level of engagement with them during the Wikimania 2022 event that was organized in Ilorin as well as other previous events. Since these participants will be drawn here follow up will be smooth as they belong to already existing active communities.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

We ensure that everyone no matter their religious beliefs, gender or ethnic group is treated equally and given an opportunity to contribute and a safe space is provided for them to thrive.
