The "Wikidata & Genocide Against the Tutsi" project aims to enrich Wikidata, Wikipedia, and Wikimedia Commons with verified and structured information about the genocide against the Tutsi, particularly data related to events and memorial sites.

Participating in the widespread dissemination of public information and open data on Wikimedia platforms, sourced from Rwandan institutions regarding the genocide against the Tutsi.
A significant amount of data has been collected by Rwandan authorities on the genocide against the Tutsi. Depending on the data that can be made publicly available, the resident will collaborate with institutional teams responsible for data collection in Rwanda. Their role will be to gather as much data as possible and integrate it into Wikidata and other Wikimedia projects.

This preparatory program for a larger residency project is structured around four key work areas:
Identification: Mapping existing resources, meeting stakeholders, planning, and organizing the tasks to be carried out. Valorization: Collecting and listing content that can be imported into Wikimedia (Wikidata, Commons, Wikipedia). Communication: Conducting information sessions on the progress of the work/project. Transmission: Sharing content and working methods with the Rwandan team and future residents to ensure the project's continuity.

User: Kani Beat is, together with me, part of the team that will work together to bring the huge amount of data's in Wikidata (I have developed competencies in mass upload of public data via OpenRefine and QuickStatements recently). I will be a coach for them also. I was on my own in Rwanda in Nov 2022 where I already started this inventory of the genocide of the Tutsi related activities. I have some contact of local people in charge of archives in this matter.

The targeted participants for this project are researchers and historians specializing in the study of the genocide against the Tutsi, as well as experienced Wikidata contributors.
We will organize webinars and introductory sessions to present the project’s objectives within the WWUA (Wiki Wake Up Afrique) group. Additionally, we will hold Wikidata training workshops for various partners on the ground in Rwanda.

We are in contact with the Wikimedians of Rwanda (Derrick Dahiro; which already showed to me hospitality, soft skills and provide advices about accommodations, local transportation and good behavior/attitude in the country toward this sensitive item). With the help of WWUA, whose members—active on Wikipedia for several years —will provide guidance.
We also seek a potential partnership or support from Ibuka – Memory, Justice, and Support for Survivors, a non-governmental organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda:

This work allows us to document information about the genocide against the Tutsi that is not yet available on Wikidata. We will publish lists of individuals and elements related to this genocide on the platform to contribute to the construction and dissemination of the collective memory of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Specifically, this will involve:
- Entering data on Wikimedia platforms, including geolocation of historical sites, information on involved individuals, dates, etc. This will cover memorial sites, churches, schools, stadiums, and major events such as massacres.
- Recording information on memory work, including discoveries, preservation efforts, commemorations, and related events.
