Our primary objective is to increase awareness, skills, and sustained participation in Wikimedia projects among students of both the Atatürk Teacher Training Academy and the Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus and to the Wikimedia movement and its projects. By doing so, we aim to cultivate an appreciation for the value of free knowledge, while promoting active and collaborative learning through content creation and editing.

Our focus will be on generating and improving content about Northern Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriot community, Education and subjects that align with the participants’ individual interests. This approach will not only contribute to enriching Wikimedia projects with local knowledge but also encourage students to become active contributors to the global free knowledge movement.

To achieve this, we have designed a diverse program of activities, including a joint Wikipedia Conference which be held in both universities and where some Wikimedians around the globe will participate online as speakers, a small wikicamp with students of both wiki clubs, Wiki promotion stand at METU Spring Fest, and regular wikimarathons. These events will provide participants with both the technical skills and the motivation to contribute meaningfully to Wikimedia projects.

Using existing university wiki clubs, the project will run activities for Wikimedians across Northern Cyprus and will be open to everyone. The events will be followed by a community meeting at the end of the project to review outcomes and next steps, open to everyone.
