Volunteer retention remains one of the key challenges faced by the emerging communities like the Wikimedia Fulfulde Community. To address these challenges we implemented and introduced a range of community-based initiatives to help sustain engagement and support our volunteers which include Internet data support program to ease volunteers access to the internet, regular motivation we provide through weekly checks of users activities to recognize top contributors by highlighting/sharing their stories in the community group to celebrate them and encourage others.
In addition, we organize triweekly contests and translate-a-thons in which prizes are offered as incentives and also established four (4) Hubs/Fan Clubs with two of which focuses on bridging knowledge gap in Fulfulde language on Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. These Hubs cater the participants' diverse interests and both of the strategies have helped greatly in the significant development of the community and the relative increase in Fulfulde Wikipedia editors engagement levels. Evidence of this growth can be seen on the Wikimedia Stats here where it shows increased activity on Fulfulde Wikipedia since we adopted a 6 monthly plan and the implementation of the above strategies.
Therefore, to continue our efforts for maximizing impacts while building on the successes of our previous activities, the Fulfulde Wikimedia Community plans to organise another 6 month cycle of activities to bring together all our community members to a centralised series of trainings to strengthen community capacity, develop technical skills in editing, expand knowledge of using the Wikimedia projects and enhance the leadership skills within our Hubs and team. This approach will ensure continued/ceaseless support and deeper engagement among our community members.
During this period, between January 2026 - June 2026, our community will give special emphasis on advocacy and capacity development. This is because one of our ongoing challenges is the lack or limited of awareness visibility of the Fulfude Wikipedia and its role in preserving indigenous knowledge online. Despite our efforts through online and physical outreaches, many Fulfulde speakers, especially in rural and semi urban areas remain unaware of the fact that they can contribute to the global knowledge in their own language.
The Fulfude Wikimedia Community believes through continued effort and consistent engagement, training and awareness, we would achieve our goal of establishing a more sustainable and culturally grounded community of contributors where editor engagements and retention, content creation as well as long term growth of Fulfulde Wikipedia is at its best.

This will help make ensure proper measure is taking in keeping the editors connected to the Wikimedia projects and keep their morale high.
