Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Wikimedia Fulfulde Community (July 2024 - December 2024) Semiannual Plan (ID: 22675936)/Final Report
Application type: Standard application
Part 1: Project and impact
1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)
We were able to host 7 edit-a-thons; five (5) on ground events (i.e physical trainings) spanning across 3 states of the north eastern region of Nigeria and two (2) virtual/online cleanups. We organized each event/training while taking into account the project aims which are: community mobilization, members enrichment and participants engagement acceleration. This helped us in focusing on adding to the members skills, identifying uncovered topics and genres on Fulfulde Wikipedia to bridge the content gaps, reshaping the members' translation skills using the Machine Translator, and more importantly introducing to our community members a new initiative which helped address their concerns and challenges for accessing the internet to make contributions to Wikipedia which is the Data Support Program. We designed a page as a key way to achieve a transparent and a fair processes were the partcipants used the opportunity to request for reimbursement and the dedicated team from the organizers would review the partcipants contibutions and reimbursed the top contributors. The process take place after every two edit-a-thons through the period of the planned ectivities. The partcipants were also provided with a free internet access in the event halls using the community routers. This helped make the partcipants contributed with ease which results to having the project period the time where the Fulfulde Wikipedia has the most growing number of new articles created the previous year of 2024 and the years before then as can be seen here.
As hoped in our application, the implemented activiities helped us maximize our community engagement, build a strong sense of connection between them and Wikimedia projects, and also grant us with the opportunity to offer them the needed support for internet access which helped gather our strengths in making effective contributions to the targeted Wikimedia projects leading to this huge success.

You can recall these learning questions below: 1. We hope to learn whether long term plan activities can solve the aforementioned challenges. 2. We hope to learn whether the participants engagements would accelerate. 3. We hope to learn what to do next by the end of this plan activities.
Learning 1:
We happened to learn the influence of long term plan activities in solving small community challenges while exerting huge impact on the community's growth and developemnt. We were able to see its effect in keeping the community members' spirit so high and instilling the feeling of sense of belonging in the movement as well as mutual understanding and team work among members. We also came to realization of the vital role long term plan activities can play in furthering the community members engagement and how that is reshaping their passion for continuing the contributions on Wikimedia projects.
Furthermore, the opportunity we had for frequent meet-ups/edit-a-thons with all the members of the community hubs and fan clubs has become another benefit of this long term plan activities as it provide us with a chance of making the community members' bond more stronger.
Learning 2:
The project helped us boost the commnunity members' engagement in a number of ways including; retaining the existing editors which help make their contribution rate to accelerate. The chart [https://stats.wikimedia.org/#/ff.wikipedia.org/contributing/edits/normalbar
