The Central Library of the University of Hamburg holds a significant collection of undigitized manuscripts, including approximately 3,300 in Persian. These materials are largely inaccessible to the public and underrepresented on open-access platforms.
This project proposes the creation of a Wikimedian-in-Residence position to bridge the Wikimedia movement and the University Library. The resident will dedicate 17 hours per week to digitizing Persian manuscripts and will voluntarily upload the digitized content to Wikimedia Commons under open licenses. They will also create and enrich Wikidata items and initiate corresponding pages on Persian Wikisource to support proofreading and public accessibility.
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
- Establish a Wikimedian-in-Residence at the University of Hamburg

- Organize workshops for students and staff on Wikimedia contributions
- 8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.
Darafsh – Project lead and Wikimedian-in-Residence (paid). Responsible for coordination, digitisation, and outreach.

Persian Wikisource volunteers – Will assist voluntarily with page creation and proofreading of digitised texts on Persian Wikisource.
- 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)
During the digitisation process, the grantee will collaborate with library staff to coordinate access and documentation. Two workshops will be held to train staff in contributing effectively to Wikimedia projects. After digitisation, files will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, metadata will be added to Wikidata, and pages will be created on Persian Wikisource to initiate proofreading and transcription.
