1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Zaria is the second largest city in Kaduna State and one of the largest city in Northern Nigeria. Zaria is also one of the biggest Hausa state, capital of the Hausa state of Zazzau. Zaria is the home of Nigeria's biggest university Ahmadu Bello University, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Federal College of Education and other educational institutions.

There's a lack of awareness about Wikipedia and it's Sister Projects between Zaria's residents especially students. I understand that a lot of students and other people are using Wikipedia, others doesn't believe in Wikipedia's information because they think everyone can edit means everyone can put what ever they want. I will carryout this project in order to bring awareness to the people about Wikipedia and it's sister projects to gain more viewers and contributors to the mostly Hausa Wikipedia.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

To recruit new contributors to Wikipedia especially Hausa Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. To bring awareness about Wikipedia. To create and improve articles related to Zaria city.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

It's one month long project which will be trips, online training, offline training and Edit-a-thon.

Trips

Four days trips to the various places of Zaria city such as Ahmadu Bello University, Federal College of Education Zaria and other tertiary institutions, where me and four facilitators we will toured Zaria city sharing flyers containing important information about Wikipedia and Wikimedia Projects. Discussing with people and answering their questions related to Wikipedia. During this Trips we will take important images and upload to Wikimedia Commons.

Online Training

I will lead two online training one before the offline training and second after the offline training. The first online training is focused on introducing Wikipedia and sister projects to the participants in order to understand their understanding of Wikipedia and to know how may I help them during physical training.

The second part of online training will come after all events and it will focused on gaining participant's understanding during all events.

Edith-a-thon

Edith-a-thon will be taken after completing trips and first online training. The Edit-a-thon will focused on creating and improving Zaria related articles and also upload files which we have taken during trips to Wikimedia Commons and use of them to the related articles.

This project is only carryout in Hausa traditional state and focused in Hausa Language and cultures. All images and articles to be improved during the event will be related to Hausa state, cultures and language.

Our target participants are mostly students and people of Zaria city. I will engage the participants best way during project's four days trips when we shared pamphlets. The other way is creating WhatsApp group in which I will add all interested member. I will also follow up the participants during last online training where I will learn what they've learned and what they need, next i will continue follow up on our WhatsApp Group.

The General friendly space policy for Wikimedia events will be summarized and to be read at the beginning of each event to remind the participants and the organizers of the importance of a friendly space policy. We will also distribute The Wikimedia-friendly space policy and UCoC before all events.
