- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
Despite rapid campaign and awareness, my preliminary survey disclose poor engagement of the Hausa local communities particularly in the growing number of new internet users in the local community. Majority of these new users are not aware of the local content of the Wikipedia resources. I intend to begin step to remedy that by directly targeting these portion of the communities to develope the interest and understand how they can make more impact in helping to improve already translated articles and provide more supporting references. Again, there are large number of articles that are not available in Hausa language.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
This program will utilize Local Community Unit such as NGOs and Civil Society Organization with objectives that are unrelated to developing the image, heritage and values of the Hausa Community. It will also be drawn from individual persons of significant interest such as pastors, imam and other local community activist. These will drive the initiative into the heart of the Hausa Community to partake in the development of articles and translation that depict the true narration of the Hausa by the Hausa people.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
√ Three days workshop/ seminar to start the program. √ First day: Awareness and training will be conducted by assigning an experienced editor to make empherical research as new participants are invited √ Second and third day: translation begins as planned, we plan to translate s good number of articles as the untranslated articles are already picked and compiled in a single paper. √ A competition to award prize to the highest contributor within the next 10 weeks after the event. √ Continue coaching and mentorship through social media and other platforms.
