[edit]- 1. How did your project go? Did you reach all project goals and success metrics?
The project was successfully implemented and met its core goals and success metrics, while also generating outcomes that went beyond the original quantitative targets. The Wikipedia at 25 for Nigeria LGBTQ+ Community initiative effectively combined celebration, community dialogue, and knowledge documentation in a way that was meaningful, inclusive, and impactful for LGBTQ+ Nigerians.
All planned activities were carried out. A hybrid celebration was successfully organized, including an online social media campaign and an in-person community gathering held on January 30, which was attended by over 20 LGBTQ+ community members physically, alongside online participation. This met the project’s goal of organizing an inclusive hybrid event and fostering community engagement around Wikipedia at 25.
In addition, participants actively shared photos and short videos online as part of the Wikipedia at 25 social media video challenge and post-event engagement. Despite understandable safety concerns that limited broader online participation, the stories shared were powerful and reflective, highlighting Wikipedia’s role in personal growth, advocacy, and self-understanding for queer Nigerians.
Overall, the project successfully met its main objectives of celebration, participation, visibility, and contribution, while also deepening community bonds and reaffirming the role of free knowledge in preserving and validating marginalized histories.
