Currently, there are no active projects serving Wikipedia within Kuwait. The content about Kuwait on the platform is minimal and underdeveloped. Through this project, I aim to address the content gap specifically related to Kuwaiti women on Arabic Wikipedia, while also expanding this focus to include Gulf women in general.
Additionally, I will work on bridging the gap in Wikidata elements related to Kuwaiti and Gulf women. This will be achieved by launching a competition for the Arab community that focuses on Gulf women, with a special emphasis on Kuwaiti women. The competition will include curated lists covering various aspects related to them, such as books, notable figures, and other relevant topics.
On the Wikidata front, dedicated workshops will be organized for Kuwaiti editors and contributors from the wider Arab community to enhance their skills in using Wikidata. Furthermore, a special Wikidata-focused component will be incorporated into the competition to encourage broader participation and engagement.
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
Project Plan 1. Editing Competition on Arabic Wikipedia: "Women in the Gulf" This competition aims to create new articles and improve existing ones about women in the Gulf. A special prize will be placed on Kuwaiti women, with a dedicated section in the competition. Curated lists will be provided, featuring notable figures, books, achievements, and other topics related to Gulf women in general and Kuwaiti women specifically. Additionally, the competition will include a unique component where participants earn extra points for creating or enhancing Wikidata items linked to their articles. This encourages the integration of accurate and comprehensive data into articles, improving content quality overall.
The inclusion of a special award for contributions related to Kuwaiti women does not mean that the focus will be limited to Kuwaiti women alone. There will be general categories in the competition dedicated to women across the Gulf region, ensuring broad coverage of women's topics throughout the Gulf. However, the unique award for Kuwaiti women will highlight their specific achievements and contributions, with a special recognition for those who focus on this area. Additionally, curated lists will be provided for all Gulf countries, ensuring that the content and contributions represent the diverse experiences of women across the entire region
2. Educational Workshops: "Wikidata for Women"
These workshops aim to empower participants with the skills to use Wikidata for creating and improving data items. The sessions will include hands-on training on searching, editing, and managing data. Participants will learn to create new items or enhance existing ones related to Gulf and Kuwaiti women. The workshops will target editors from Kuwait and contributors from the broader Arab community, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing while enhancing the representation of women in Wikidata.
- 8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.
The project team will consist of dedicated organizers, Faisal and Rotana, who will oversee and manage the overall structure and execution of the project. User:فيصل User:روتانا
Additionally, there will be a carefully selected judging panel responsible for evaluating the competition entries, ensuring that all contributions meet the highest standards of quality and relevance. To further support participants, a specialized trainer will be chosen to lead the Wikidata workshops. This trainer will have extensive experience in Wikidata to provide the best possible guidance and training to ensure participants are equipped with the skills they need to succeed in the competition.
- 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)
The target audience for this competition is the Arabic community on Arabic Wikipedia. I will define the terms and conditions, as well as the privileges, at the start of the competition. To reach out to the participants, I will utilize various channels, including user discussion pages, social media pages dedicated to the Arab community, These platforms will serve as the primary means of communication to engage with potential participants and ensure widespread awareness of the competition.
Additionally, I will send personalized invitations via email to user groups, ensuring direct communication with potential participants. I will also focus on attracting Kuwaiti editors by reaching out to them specifically and encouraging their participation in the competition. Moreover, I will actively motivate experienced editors to contribute and engage in the project, urging them to participate in the editing and help drive the success of the competition through their expertise and involvement.

We have started working on the Wikimedia Kuwait User Group; however, we have not yet obtained official recognition as the group is still new. Nevertheless, we have discussed the importance of supporting projects related to women on the discussion page of the Wikimedia Kuwait User Group on Arabic Wikipedia. and Given my previous experience in designing competition lists for various projects, I thoroughly researched the importance of Kuwait’s involvement in the "Women" project to address the content gap that needs to be filled by 2025.
