Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

What problem are you trying to solve by doing this project? This problem should be small enough that you expect it to be completely or mostly resolved by the end of this project. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

To solve the problem of low participation of Igbo language educationists and students in the creation of contents and use of Igbo Wikipedia as an online educational resource in Nigeria.

What is your solution to this problem?[edit]

For the problem, you identified in the previous section, briefly describe your how you would like to address this problem. We recognize that there are many ways to solve a problem. We’d like to understand why you chose this particular solution, and why you think it is worth pursuing. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

We will solve this problem by organising well-planned trainings and series of workshops for higher educational institutions, focusing on Igbo language department, educationists and students. The training and workshop will teach them how to edit Igbo Wikipedia and use it as an educational resource. It will also involve them in content creation in a creative and fun way.

Project goals[edit]

What are your goals for this project? Your goals should describe the top two or three benefits that will come out of your project. These should be benefits to the Wikimedia projects or Wikimedia communities. They should not be benefits to you individually. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

  • Increase number of educationists and students editing Igbo Wikipedia
  • Improve existing content in Igbo Wikipedia
  • Increase the content in Igbo Wikipedia
  • Increase awareness of Wikimedia and it's other projects

Project impact[edit]

How will you know if you have met your goals?[edit]

For each of your goals, we’d like you to answer the following questions:

  1. During your project, what will you do to achieve this goal? (These are your outputs.)
  2. Once your project is over, how will it continue to positively impact the Wikimedia community or projects? (These are your outcomes.)

For each of your answers, think about how you will capture this information. Will you capture it with a survey? With a story? Will you measure it with a number? Remember, if you plan to measure a number, you will need to set a numeric target in your proposal (i.e. 45 people, 10 articles, 100 scanned documents). Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

1. We will organise:

  • Series of training and workshops

Two modules each for the teachers and students in a College of Education.

  • Organise a contest to add content

The trained teachers will be assigned to the trained students to supervise them in writing specific articles that capture the Igbo culture in the Igbo Wikipedia and the best group based on the decision of a panel wins the contest)

  • Give out grants to 2 winners to organise 14 edit-a-thons events to add content further and recruit more editors.
  • Supervise and monitor the edit-a-thons project.

2. At the end of this project:

  • We will have over 50 articles (improved and added) OER(Online Educational Resources) in Igbo Wikipedia
  • More Igbo language educationists who can edit Igbo Wikipedia, teach students how to and use it as a tool for learning
  • Educationist and students who will join the Igbo community
  • A healthy and active Igbo community in Imo State.

Problem tree[edit]

Do you have any goals around participation or content?[edit]

Are any of your goals related to increasing participation within the Wikimedia movement, or increasing/improving the content on Wikimedia projects? If so, we ask that you look through these three metrics, and include any that are relevant to your project. Please set a numeric target against the metrics, if applicable.

  • We will write articles about the different culture and traditions of the Igbos in the Igbo Wikipedia.

Some of the articles are:

  1. Iwa Oji (breaking of kola nut)
  2. Itu mmanyi (Libations)

  • I love the fact that as part of its goals, the project is aimed at increasing the number of educationists and scholars creating Igbo content in Wikipedia.

The low number of Igbo content creators on Wikipedia has been the missing link over the years and burning passion in the hearts of Igbo Wikimedians User Group. This project, therefore, comes as a unique opportunity to bridge the gap. Amazing biteck (talk) 07:35, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
