Project Goal[edit]

  1. Recruit new editors
  2. Raise awareness about Wikipedia in an international event
  3. Add or improve content related to human rights
  4. Socialize with community members in Norway

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

  • What is the purpose of the meeting and why is it important to your community?

The Oslo Freedom Forum is an international event organized in order to the promote of human rights across the globe. During its first day (28 May in the program: https://oslofreedomforum.com/events/2018-oslo-freedom-forum/program ), it will have a tech lab, where human rights will be linked with technology. The purpose of having a stand for Wikimedia is to make the participants aware of the possibility of using the different projects that Wikimedia offers to promote human rights. Another purpose of the meeting is to familiarize the human right prominent advocates around the globe with Wikimedia, and hopefully make some of them become editors. I will participate along with colleagues from Wikimedia Norway. The reason why I was chosen is the languages I can cover (which can be complementary to the already available languages, and can be helpful when discussing with human rights activists from MENA or Africa).

  • What benefits have you seen from doing this kind of meeting in the past?

I have not participated in such an event in the past, but one of the clear benefits that I can see is raising awareness about Wikimedia projects in the human rights context. This can be linked with projects that were done previously, for example in south America.

  • How will you let participants know about the meeting?

The participants will be informed by the organizers of the forum in the program page that they are updating constantly (there will be an information that a Wikimedia stand will be part of the tech lab day as well).

  • How will you keep participants engaged after the meeting is over?

One of the ways of keeping the participants engaged will be by gathering their contacts, and trying to follow up after a fixed time. This can however be challenging given the people who are targeted in this event. This point needs to be discussed with all the team participating in representing Wikimedia in the foundation.

Impact[edit]

Note: In addition to your project-specific measures of success, you will also be asked to report on some Global Metrics at the end of your final report. Please keep this in mind as you plan, and we'll support you as you begin your project.

Endorsements[edit]

  • I strongly endorse Anass' proposal. The Human Rights Foundation, the organizers of Oslo Freedom Forum, has invited Wikimedia Norge to reach out to editors who speaks different languages to join the Tech Lab on May 28, the first day of Oslo Freedom Forum. We will have a wiki café at the Tech Lab and Wikimedia Norge, as well as the organizer, think it is of high importance that we can gather editors that can speak and edit on the topic of human rights in languages other than English and European. • I feel confident in the grantee's capacity to execute this outreach project very successfully. Sara Mörtsell (WMSE) (talk) 14:03, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
