As I am the only Wikipedian world wide especially making photos of track cycling and track cyclists, my photos are used intesively in all languages. So I would like to attend the Junior Track Cycling World Championships 2020 in Cairo next year (date around end of August, not yet officially).

Project Goal[edit]

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

Add high quality content. To provide photos from track cyclists. Many cyclists at the Junior Championships will be attending Olympic Games in the future, and it is important to have photos of cyclists from fi Asia and Africa and to put these countries on the global sports map.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

I will go daily to the Velodrome in Cairo and thake especially portrait photos of the participants (example: [2]). I myself write many bio pics about track cyclists, and my photos make authors in other languages to do the same. In the meantime I have a good reputation in the cycling scene and there is a good cooperation. The president of the African Cycling Federation himself asked me to come to Cairo and to document the championships, which are the first world championships in Egypt and the 2nd in Africa (Cape Town 2008). So it is an important step for African sports.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

I always inform the cycling projects in the other languages, and many authors are thankful for my photos ("wonderful Nicola" :))

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

  • —DerHexer (Talk) 13:47, 16 November 2019 (UTC) As one of the photographers of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games (use) I strongly endore this grant request. The results are overwhelming. Some of the young athletes are already World Record holders and have articles in various languages. A lot of photos are used, the remaining ones are well categorized. The same applies to all of Nicola's photos, especially of cycling, which I have seen so far.
  • I strongly endorse the grant. I know Nicola as a trusted member of the German Wikipedia community and her work enrich the area of the track cycling and track cyclists of Wikipedia. Normally I am not a big fan of evalution of volunteer work by numbers only. But I was very impressed when I saw the GLAMorous numbers of her photos: 2435 distinct files ouf of totally 5669 files were used in Wikimedia projects. (42.95%. Total image usages 8506).   • I have to follow here DerHexer and Raymond. I could say the same as they already have, but it's not better to say as it already is by them. Nicola is not just a very skilled photographer and one of the big knowledge hoards in this field, she also is very close to the sportspeople and linked with the officials.   • I second DerHexer and Marcus Cyron, as the three of us took part of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, I can spend hours and hours telling you about why this is an important project, but as Marcus said, it's not better to say as it already is.   • I strongly endorse. Since years, Nicola makes very good illustrations of track and road cycling, and she helps us when we worked to develop d:Module:Cycling race in several languages. I like her work. For this project, she will make photos of cyclists that a part will become stars in years, so it will be a good plus for Wikipedia to have photos of these cyclists when they were young. She's absolutuely reliable (I would always ask her to take care of my cats!) and her photographing skills developed greatly over the last years.
