Chuks Zilo/Wikidata Edit-a-thon and Training
The goals of this project is to train interested new and existing wikimedians in wikidata with emphasis on adding citations and linking references with English Wikipedia. There will also be edit-a-thon after each training. Most of the edit a thon will be on secondary schools in Nigeria and participants will include secondary school students.

Project Goal[edit]

  1. Recruit new editors: New editors will be recruited.
  2. Increase skills for existing editors: We will be training new and existing editors including students on wikidata and on the importance and need for citations.
  3. Add or improve content: We will be creating and improving content on wikidata.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We will be doing 4 Edit-a-thon and training

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

We will be using mainly social media such as whatsapp to communicate and announce the event.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

Yes we do. they include Kid Keen 47 and Anurikaonu and some others

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Some participants are skilled and have equipment needed to participate. participants who don't have the skill will be trained

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will be in contact with the participants through social media and the whatsapp group that will be formed for all participants. part of the discussion in the training is to encourage every participants after the programme to keep editing in wikidata for at least the next one month

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

It will be an in-house event but the number of participants in each training and edit a thon will not be up to 10. I, therefore, will not need to complete the risk assessment according to the rules

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

we will follow all guidelines for Covid 19 protocol by the Nigerian government. The meeting room to be rented will be a place that meets up with Covid 19 protocol and will provide a facility for testing temperature and washing of hands before any participants will be allowed to enter. Participants will also be well spaced in the sitting arrangement and wear branded Wikimedia face mask. there will also be constant use of hand sanitizer.

Each day of the project will start with a training and discussion on how to edit in wikidata. the training will last for about 2 hours. after the training, there will be an edit a thon by all participants. There will also be pre-packaged food and drink which will be brought by a restaurant.

  2. Number of participants - 7 Participants for each of the 4 events
  3. Number of new editors - 4 New Editors
  4. Number of articles created or improved - 100 Articles
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) - 10 Participants

  • purchase of hand sanitizer= $50
  • wikimedia merchandize including face mask' - $20 X 20 = $400
