Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes. As a celebration of International Women's Day, we had originally planned to organize 5 editathons at 5 different places. We spent the money judiciously and also we got concessional rates at some places. This helped us to organize one more editathon and a meetup to discuss the outcome.
Outcome
[edit]Please report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
5 Editathons | 6 Editathons, 1 Meetup | We originally proposed to have 5 editathon. We spent the money judiciously and also we got concessional rates at some places. This helped us to organize one more editathon and a meetup to discuss the outcome. |
125 participants | 145 participants | Since we conducted 1 more editathon, we exceeded the target |
50 new editors | 89 new editors | We got very positive response |
60 articles created or improved | 150 new articles created and 225 improved articles | Participants were proactive. |
75 repeat participants | 56 repeat participants | We organized Editathons at some new places where no editors exited previously |
Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
We not only achieved our target, but also exceeded. We got good response from the participants. Some participants are continuing to contribute. They are eager to learn more and requesting for followup editathons. We got very good response from the participants.
- What did not work so well?
We organized Editathons at each place for 2 days. We found it is not a sufficient duration to learn advanced topics.
At Belagavi, we had internet issue which we did not anticipate.
- What would you do differently next time?
We may like to do followup Editathons for the same participants.
We may oganize events to teach advanced topics
Have a plan to expand the events to other places

- I presented the experiences and the outcome of these editathons during the Tulu Wikipedia and Kannada Wikipedia meetups.
Durgambika a participant of the editathon held at Ujire says “So far we have been using the content from Wikipedia. Now we have learnt how to add content to Wikipedia. It gives immense pleasure to know that others will be using the content added by us. I came to know that there is less participation of women in Wikipedia. Hence there is less content related to women. I myself added one article about a women dress of India. This gave me special satisfaction. More women should participate in this kind of activities.” |
