Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

  • I am going to have one editathon and series of 3 trainings to sharpen the skills of already existing editors and introduce Wikimedia projects to newly recruited editors. These trainings will be held on Saturdays within the month of October, 2021.
  • Recruitment of new editors will be paramount in our workshop training sessions in order to widen the scope of the community.
  • Ample time will be invested in training of the new recruits in order to bring them at level with the existing editors. This way, we will have more skilled volunteers to take on the editathon task.
  • Research will be conducted to uncover the festivals of marginalized communities/tribes.
  • Here is a link to the festivals that we will be working on.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Information of the project will be shared on Dallung Wikimedians Community WhatsApp group which was created to aid in carry out project under Global Open Initiative, I being chosen as the GLAM ambassador under the auspices of Global Open Initiative(GOIF).
Emails will be sent to invite experienced to support/endorse this project

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Participants will get to know about the project via Dallung Wikimedians Community Social media channels; WhatsApp and Facebook.
Phone calls will also be made to take care of volunteers from internet challenged communities.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT

User:Din-nani1 and User:Hidrash

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants have equipment and enough skills to take on this project. Result oriented training will be given to newly recruited editors to make them be abreast with the technicalities in editing Wikimedia projects and also to sharpen the skills of already existing editors.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Dallung Wikimedians Community already volunteers for Wikimedia foundation and the enthusiasm will be elevated to volunteer more after participating in this project.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Yes. Link to COVID-19 Risk Assessment protocol.

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project will structure and preserve data of festivals celebrated in Ghana and also uncover festivals of marginalized tribes.
