Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

This project seeks to build a holistic knowledge and skills transfer system that provides clear guidance and direction to aid volunteers who join the community to navigate their way through the movement. It also seeks to develop an online curriculum with the aim of boosting the capacity of both existing and new community members to acquire certain specific skills to enable them to progress and enhance their work within the Wikimedia and wider open movement. The program would help participants navigate the ecosystem and find their niche. The program will be delivered online through weekly live practical sessions with experienced members of the Wikimedia movement. The program targets young Nigerians and other Africans who are interested in participating in the program. The organizers would spend time in publicizing and awareness, communications with the participants, training and guiding participants, reaching out to experienced wikimedians and free knowledge advocates in open GLAM, open data, open education, technology, content drives in various topics etc,

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

The project has been announced on Wikiproject Nigeria [1] and Wikiproject Africa [2].
We are targeting young people who can commit to the demands of the program.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

We would have trained 50 participants to become highly skilled in editing Wikipedia and its sister projects, participating effectively in activities within the communities, starting projects, copyright and open licensing.
The participants in the program would be added to a mailing list and/or WhatsApp/Telegram group where they would regularly receive updates, opportunities and information.

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

  • Timmylegend - (Project Lead) - I am an experienced Wikipedian, and previously led the Wikimedia Fan Club, University of Ilorin for two. I have organised various campaigns and projects in the Wikimedia community such as 1Lib1Ref, Art+Feminism, Wiki Loves Africa, Wikipedia pages wanting photos and Nigeria Expedition. I was a participant at Wiki Indaba 2019 and Wikimania 2021 conferences. I will be facilitating the creation of instructional videos/materials, virtual meetings and selection of speakers/trainers on virtual training workshops for participants.
  • Haylad - (Coordinator) - He has previously led the Wikimedia Fan Club, University of Ilorin, organized multiple meetups and Wiki loves Africa photo walks/event at the University Club in Ilorin and Ado-Ekiti in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
  • Bilijin - (Coordinator) - She is an experienced Wikimedian with a knack for prudence, she currently leads the Wikimedia Fan Club, University of Ilorin. She will be in charge of result collation and disclosure of Winners. She is a board member (Vice Chair) of the Wikimedia Nigeria Foundation Inc/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. She will be in charge of recruiting, onboarding and supporting new members during the program.
  • Godstime Elijah - (Logistics) - He is an experienced Wikimedian and will be responsible for every form of logistics and general support to participants during the program.
  • ShimJC - (Communications and Publicity) - She recently joined the Wikimedia movement, she participated in the Nigeria Expedition and Afrocine contest. She is highly skilled in social media engagements, publicity, and strategic communications.


What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense:

  • Airtime for communication - $200
  • Internet (For the team members, during the project and post-project for report writing) - $300
  • Internet support to active participants ($15 X 50 participants) - $750
  • Graphics Designs (flyers, videos, certificates, posters, covers, etc) and social media promotions - $500
  • Online meeting platform subscription ($25 X 6 months) - $150
  • Shirts for organizers and active participants ($10 X 10) - $100
  • Project management costs (mainly to support costs incurred for more than 6 months of planning and coordination) - $1,500
  • Administrative cost (shipping, bank fees, contingency, FX fluctuation, etc) - $200
  • Gift Vouchers for Top participants - $200
