Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? I met my goals, we created more than 160 words in Igbo Wiktionary and had more participants.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of events 4 7 We exceeded the number of event by 3 events.
Number of participants 160 162 We also exceed this target and i think we even exceeded this by a higher margin because not all participants created a page and words.
Number of new editors: 30 155
Number of of articles created or improved: 120 293 We exceeded our target.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

Students were eager to participate in the project including students that are not literate in Igbo language. We could not take all the interested students to participate in each of the session.

The success of the project has resulted in an emergence of an Igbo Wikimedians school Club which will now become one of the Igbo Wikimedians User group projects which I am part of.

It also helped create awareness of the Wikimedia Foundation projects within the School Community as some Teachers also participated.

  • What did not work so well?

I could not carry out the project on the days and period as I had earlier stated in my form because when I was supposed to do the project, the national labour union in Nigeria declared a strike action which meant that no worker should go to work. This also meant that all activities in government schools including my school where the project was to take place had to be suspended. This also affected the school calender.

Some words could not be linked to the English wiktionary as they were not yet created in English.

Internet coverage was poor and weather was a hindrance.

  • What would you do differently next time?

I will not concentrate the next project on only my school because of the weak internet facility and the possibility of workers strike being a government school. I will want to use both government, private schools and the general public so that it can be flexible. I would also prefer to fix my events during the third term of any academic year to avoid unnecessary interruptions from school planned calendar
