Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes i did and very happy about the whole project as it was super successfull and created a new drive for Wikidata in Nigeria which also resulted to the creation of Wikidata:WikiProject Nigeria with lot of partipants ready to be part.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of total participants: Atleast 25 at the venue , 25 on Virtual Zoom We had a total of 28 participants at the hall and 26 partipants virually on zoom We exceeded the targets and still had over 50 viewers from Facebook
Number of Wikidata items created or improved: 1,200 We had only about 700 items created or improved This was due to some technical issues on the part of the partipants and still continious as partipants pledged to continue improving.
Number of Wikipedia articles to be linked with these data: 500 Only about 200 articles was linked. Tecnical challenges aswell on the part of the partipants.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
    • The participants were very eager and happy with what they learnt as they showed so much interest.
    • The live stream was a very good developmet as this is the first of its kind for any Wikimedia project in Nigeria as partipants from different part of Nigeria was able to join and still feel part of the celebration.
    • Gifting the top contributors throw pillows and t-shirts increased the morale of the partipants as they readily embraced it.
    • The celebration birthed a new Wikidata community in Nigeria and also active contributions to Wikidata:WikiProject Nigeria
    • The choice of facilatiors which include Alice Kibombo and Geoffery from Uganda who joined virtually proved very useful as partipants enjoyed their sessions.
  • What did not work so well?
    • The funds arrived very late and that affceted some plans which also include postponing.
    • Most participants arrived very late as the Governor of the state was passing around at that particular period and hence caused long gridlock of traffic which affected us not starting at the planned time.
    • Starting very late changed the program scheldule and disenfrenchise some of our facilitators as some couldnt make it again as they had another meeting by the time we were ready for them.
    • The live stream technilaties prooved very stressful at a time and went thorugh lot of trobleshoot being our first time and that didnt make us go live on Facebook on time until after a hour.
    • We planned the foods and packs for only 25 particpants but we had about 28 participants so some organizers had to do without food and packs.
  • What would you do differently next time?
    • Choose a time that is atleast 1 hour before the main time for publicity: for instance; instead of putting 10am, i will put like 9am so partipants would be able to make the 10am cut eventually.
    • If am doing something new for the first time, i will create a mock test before the main day to test run first as that woold have solved the live stream technical challenges.
    • Always prepare for more extra people just incase.
