Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

We will focus on adding and improving pictures about homes and habitat in South Sudan, and these shall be done by involving many photographers that shall be contributed by the many trained South Sudanese Wiki-Commoners across the country. This content is important to our community because very little has been documented about South Sudan, its cultures diversity and the homes, the most documented about the country is about war, hunger and disaster, but beyond these issues are the amazing lives, cultures habitat and homes of people that are stories untold, and hence this contents shall bring a lot of these visual stories told by the photos that shall be submitted and this will enable many people to learn more about Sudan Sudan and change the negative perspectives that exist about South Sudan commonly known as a war, hunger and disaster country in Africa.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

@wikisouthsudan

3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
We will invite participants to join the photography contest by posting invitations on our user talk pages as members of the community. We will send emails about the contest to our mailing list which includes anyone who has RSVP'd or attended an event in the past. We will also use the radio with our massive media networks, banners in the community and out\r social media platforms as members and the user group as a whole.

For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.

The contest shall be judged by the organisers and professional photographers, we shall most put our basis on the quality of the image, story in the event, image location and the rules of photography and by these we shall be able to get the best photos that portray the stories of South Sudan as far as home and habitat are concerned. Prizes will be given to the top three scorers. Prizes is cash, so the delivery should not be a problem, since there are many foams of sending cash.

5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

This contest will help make sure that images from the contest get used in articles. We shall also use our social media platforms to share the images widely so that writers, bloggers, newsprint, and so on get to know the existence of wiki commons photos that are free to be used by everyone. This shall involve informing them of the existence of Wikimedia Commons.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

We shall be running in-person events, our events will be not more than ten people per event.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This is our first community-hosted wiki commons photo contest, we are very excited to host and create a great impact in our country's story board.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

Endorsements[edit]

Community members are encouraged to endorse your project request here!

  • Being a new Wikimedia community user group in South Sudan, this project will be a great step for South Sudanese to be able to let the world know the great homes, habitats, and heritage in South Sudan beyond the war stories that South Sudan is renowned for. It is also a great step for them to tell their own stories through pictures because pictures are a huge part and great evidence of storytelling and changing narratives. Sandra Aceng (talk) 06:57, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
  • I strongly endorse this project, the Wikimedia User Group Uganda team has been working to grow the Wikimedia community for South Sudan through the Wiki For Refugees project, Wiki Loves Africa 2022 in South Sudan will help more people get involved in Wikimedia projects, and this time in South Sudan. Kateregga1 (talk) 05:43, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
  • I endorse that request and am very glad to welcome this new team and see they are getting support from Uganda. Since I read all of them every year, I will note that the prices are slightly higher to what is usually asked for and approved. Anthere (talk) 18:32, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
