Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  • All 5 photographers showed up and were very inspired.
  • We were able to visit all the 6 states.
  • Partnering with government and security agency proved very effective.
  • The project created awareness and relationship with photographers from south south Nigeria.
  • The project also get to document and represent images from south south Nigeria on Wikipedia.
  • What did not work so well?
  • Getting into the different states took lot of time and trouble due to bad road network.
  • We couldn't get an overview capture of some of the landmarks area due to its inaccessibility as we don't have a drone.
  • Because of the time limit as we don't want to exceed the speculated days and tiredness each day from the tour, it was difficult to upload after each day photowalk as it made the upload more overwhelming later on.
  • We had vehicle break downs at some point and hence inhibit the tour.
  • What would you do differently next time?
  • For next time, we will have to rent a drone as it will bring out more beauty of the landmarks and also allow us capture inaccessible place around mountains or steeps.
  • We will allocated atleast 2weeks to cover the next region and ensure there is allocated days away from the photowalk for uploads.
  • We would get spare vehicles in some regions just incase of breakdowns next time

Anything else[edit]

This current trend of photo tour/photowalk has become an amazing success which has ushered in lot of amazing professional photographers into contributing to Wikimedia commons. And this south south edition was even more successful as it created a long lasting impact and showed how Wikimedia Foundation is bridging the gap for Nigeria images on Wikipedia and hence more photographers are more than willing to volunteer their time for the next one in North Central Nigeria.
