Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Yes we met our project goals, which was to convene a high-level workshop to engage experts in the area of Human rights , climate change and Biodiversity to Key among other thing identify information gaps on Kenya’s environmental issues, climate justice, human rights and the right to a healthy environment.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
  • Bring together experts in the areas of climate Justice and Biodiversity, to identify gaps in information on Kenya’s environmental issues, regulation and human rights topics.
  • Amplify the diversity of Wikipedia Campaigns
We managed to mobilize 7 organisations who sent represantives to attend the workshop. This helped in bringing the much needed diversity and different perspectives in the conversations. It wouldnt be a high-level workshop without participants hence the major sucess of our project lay in mobilizing key people to grace the vent, which we did sucessfully.
  • Engage and create a network of environmentalists, human rights advocates and journalists who are passionate about open knowledge.
  • Recruit and build the capacity of new participants/audiences within the above thematic areas to contribute knowdge on Wikipedia
We were keen on raising awareness about Wikipedia and how participants can contribute information in their niche areas. We were able not to just connect with our event partcipants but manage to create a network and contact list. Some of these organisations such as the Organisation of Youth Alliance (OAY)have consequently invited us to speak in their events as well and we are positive of forging greater partnerships in future projects. It's one thing to make a connection and abuild another to build relationships, our goal is to keep the connection with these organisations and constantly update them on our projects and also corrdinate regualr wikipedia trainnings to keep them engaged.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? Good planning always goes along way in project management. I had a team of three steering team recruited based on their skills and allocated roles right at the onset. This enured that everyone knew what was expected of them and the support they needed to give to the team.
  • Professionalism is also key in corrdinating events. This way everyone knows when it's time for business and time to socialize and ensures that things get done. It also sends communication to your guests during events and goes along way in determing if they would want to associate with you in future events.
  • What did not work so well? Getting people to edit Wikipedia post the workshop. Not all participants are interested in editing but atleast they still helped us to identify some content gaps. We also noticed that getting new editors to grow into eediting requires time and regular trainnings.
  • What would you do differently next time?

In future events we need to have a post workshop plan and editing trainning schedule to provide constitency. Although our event was not a writing contest, it would still be great to have new editors in these thematic areas help us in bridging the identified contnet gaps.

We are also keen on aplying for APG for 2023 projects so that we can plan well and avoid burnout owing to the short span of time in between projects. The APG wll also help us coordinate our events better as learn to prioritize more events.
