Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

Overall, the project will be a two weeks long event. In the first seven days, I will organize a 3 days online and offline awareness sessions to get people begin to know about the event, the theme and why they should attend and engage in the training sessions. While in the remaining 4 days of the first week, I will organize a workshop training sessions to the participants where the two invited guests; one a human right activist and the other environmental health officer from Yobe State Ministry of Environment will present speeches on Human Rights and Rights to a Healthy Environment and how to protect the environment, this would happen together with a series of edit-a-thons on how to create Wikipedia articles. In the second week, all the participants would be reimburse with data to engage in creating articles related to Human Rights especially, rights to a healthy environment and share them with the public.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Already, there are established social media channels of the Wikimedia Nigeria User Group (WhatsApp and Telegram) where I notified the community. I also notify the Hausa Wikimedians User Group. Also I will inform the community on the Hausa Discussion page.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Social media channels like WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook and physical outreach.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT

Yes there are experienced editors who can also help me in the training of new editors like: Anasskoko

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Some may not have the required skills but may have their own laptops/mobile phones to use during the trainings. We would teach those who do not have the skills how to edit and contributes on Wikipedia. Also, the participants will be provided with Internet data that will be used during the edit-a-thon sessions.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

I will take attendance of the participants during the trainings in order to have their contacts and open social media platforms including WhatsApp and Telegram groups where I can add them and continue engaging them in the Wikimedia projects activities.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Yes. Here is the link

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Albeit, there might be some other projects requested/approved under Hausa and English Wikipedia(s), I think the scope of my project is broader as it includes the less contributed Fulfulde Wikipedia and I due believe that the impact it would give is going to be really amazing because I don't think there is any other approved similar project holding in the Northeast Region of Nigeria which is the location where my project is going to be held. The project will have the series of three events. Here is the plan of the project:
  • First event - Online and offline awareness creation
  • Second event - Edit-a-thons/trainings on how to create articles on Wikipedia
  • Third event - Adding and improving contents related to WikiForHumanRights

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events = 3
  2. Number of participants = 50
  3. Number of new editors = 10
  4. Number of articles created or improved = 100
  5. Number of repeat participants = 5
