Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, we are happy with how the project went and we successfully met our main goals. The 14th Arabic Wikipedia Day was a major event that brought together 75 active participants from across the Arabic-speaking world. Together, they created and improved over 4,500 articles on Arabic Wikipedia in just one day, reflecting strong engagement and collaboration. To increase motivation and recognize contributors, we prepared and sent gifts to the top participants based on their contributions. While most gifts were delivered successfully, we did face some logistical challenges in sending gifts to a few participants, especially those living in countries with political instability or shipping restrictions. Despite these issues, the event was a great success and helped strengthen the spirit of community and competition among Arabic Wikipedia editors.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

The event successfully mobilized a large number of contributors, with 75 participants actively editing and producing over 4,500 new articles in a single day. The competitive spirit, supported by the gift rewards for top contributors, significantly boosted participation and motivation. Promotion efforts and community coordination were also effective, creating a sense of unity and excitement across the Arabic Wikipedia community.

  • What did not work so well?

While the event was overall successful, we faced logistical difficulties in delivering gifts to some participants. A few contributors lived in countries with political instability, shipping restrictions, or limited postal services, which made it hard or even impossible to send them their rewards. In some cases, delays in communication or coordination also impacted gift distribution.

  • What would you do differently next time?

In future editions, we plan to prepare earlier for logistics, including verifying addresses and exploring alternative delivery options (such as digital gift cards where possible). We may also consider creating regional prize distribution hubs or collaborating with local Wikimedia communities to ease the process. Additionally, we would like to improve post-event follow-up with participants to collect feedback and strengthen engagement for future events.

Anything else

[edit]

Anything else you want to share about your project?

I would like to apologize for the delay in submitting this report. It was a difficult period for me and my husband, and as Wikimedia contributors, we paused our activities together during that time. However, we are now returning with renewed energy and a new challenge ahead. I sincerely hope this report will be accepted despite the delay. Although we took some distance from the broader Wikimedia community for a while, we remained active in internal projects, including editing and facilitating many workshops within Tunisia. These efforts have played a significant role in building and strengthening a new Wikimedia community in southern Tunisia. We are excited to continue contributing and expanding our impact moving forward.
