Semmy1960/WikiLagos Nigeria Ministries and parastatals cleanup
As a Journalist/Blogger I believe it is important to have detailed information and well-referenced articles on government Ministries and Parastatals of your country. I want to improve and create articles on Lagos state Ministeries and its agencies. Some of the articles already created need expansion and more references, which can be sourced from newspaper publications that may not be online. We need to create a Wikidata content on the Agencies and Ministries that are missing and add pictures to all the ministries that have been created.

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

I am doing two physical training, one edit-a-thon and four online training sessions

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages. You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I have made an announcement on the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria page

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Participants will be informed of the editathons and trainings through the club's WhatsApp group as well as its Instagram and Facebook pages.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User: JethroBT

User:James Rhoda - Facilitator; experienced Wikimedian, member of Unilorin Wikimedia Fan club , Winner of WikiLoveSDGs and Wikidata for Media personality in Nigeria.
User:Johnjoy12 - Co-Facilitator; experienced Wikimedian and President of Wikimedia Fan Club, University of Ibadan. He has organized series of events which include WLA2021, WPWP, Photowalks and numbers of meetups.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
Participants are expected to bring their mobile phones and or Laptops computers, if not available, we support the participant with additional Laptops, along with the Data support for internet connection. Participants who are not skilled will be trained and engaged by the experienced Wikimedia editors on the team.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

During the event, participants will be asked to provide their phone numbers. After the event, they will be added to a WhatsApp group.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project will help answer the yearnings of some of my students who are already waiting to be trained. After the first training which recorded huge success at the Lagos State University Ojo campus, The students have been patiently waiting and calling for their own Wikipedia training. We have 96 students waiting to be trained. I will be training in batches until we become a community and Wikipedia training is accepted as a curriculum in Lagos state university. This training would help correct content on Lagos Ministries. As a journalist, I know the importance of reporting facts and being objective and not subjective. This project will help to an extent change the mindset of our government to the reliability of Wikipedia. They need to know that Wikipedia is home to Nigerian content. The documentation of Nigeria is critical to our future. Only Wikipedia can store that information for us.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events 2
  2. Number of participants 30
  3. Number of new editors 10
  4. Number of articles created or improved 100
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)20
