Project Goal[edit]

Ragnhild Furebotten of Never on a Sunday during the 2017 Jazz på Jølst festival.

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

  • add high quality content from three music festivals in Norway

I plan to cover 6-8 cultural events in 2018, of which three music festivals require travelling. These three are:

  1. Stavernfestivalen (July) http://www.stavernfestivalen.no/
  2. Kongsberg Jazzfestival (July) https://kongsbergjazz.no/
  3. Jazz på Jølst (October, dates not set) http://www.jolsterjazz.com/

Two music festivals are in my local town:

  1. Piknik i Parken (June) http://www.pipfest.no/
  2. Oslo Jazzfestival (August) http://oslojazz.no/

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

  • Identify potential music festivals and concerts . Candidates: https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruker:Toresetre/2018-prosjekter/Festivaler
  • Apply for photo accreditation to the festivals and concert organisers
  • Attend the music festivals and photograph artists. Network with other photographers, artists and festival management
  • Use social media accounts of Wikimedia chapter organizations to showcase the project (like Wikimedia Norge)
  • Post-process, add metadata and upload photographs to Commons.
  • Update Wikidata with missing information about the subjects.
  • Increase quality of metadata through help from Wiki-community (contributors) and embed photographs in Wikipedia articles. I will use the experience from previous community engagement to engage community (example 1), (example 2), (example 3).
  • Write a report and present the result to the festivals and artists

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

  • Added several hundred photographs to Commons
  • Added data and increased quality to Wikidata

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

  • Number of events : 5 festivals
  • Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: More than 300
  • Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects: Photos used in more than 150 articles in more than 30 projects

Non-measurable impact

  • By covering Jazz på Jølst, increase the presence of musicians from Western Norway
  • Reduce the gender gap and underrepresentation of minorities. I achieve this by analysing the festival program and prioritize subjects that are underrepresented.

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is the organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

Planning support from Wikimedia Norge

Endorsements[edit]

  • I strongly endores Tore's proposal. Over the last years he has taken photos at many concerts and festivals in Norway of both Norwegian and international artists, often concentrating on covering female artists. The photos have a high image use on different Wikipedias. Tore works systematically and carefully with both editors and the people organizing concerts and festivals which help new Commons photographers to get involved in concert photography. • Support idea The Wikimedia community needs more precedent of event photography as a strategic priority. The world needs to expect that Wikimedia photographers and journalists will be present at all events and that they should encourage their attendance along with traditional paper and television broadcast journalists. Wiki NYC has some documentation of how this has worked in the United States at en:Wikipedia:Press pass and en:Learning patterns/Developing contacts for press/Photo accreditations. The amount of money requested here is modest for the promised output and especially considering how this matches with what other Wikimedians are doing elsewhere to the mutual benefit of everyone. I make some requests on the talk page along with my support. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:24, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
