Wiki Loves Caucasus 2019 is the first regional competition, which is organized by Caucasian Wikimedians. The language sections of Wikipedia in the languages of the Caucasus will be participating in the competition, during which new articles about the countries of the Caucasus (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia) will be created. Each participating country should create thematic articles about other participating countries. Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

The idea of holding Wiki Loves Caucasus was born during the Wikimedia Summit 2019 in Berlin, when a non-formal meeting of Wikimedia representatives (Chapter/User Group) from the Caucasus and surrounding countries took place. During the discussion with the representatives of Wikimedia Russia, Wikimedia UG Azerbaijan and Wikimedia UG Georgia, we came to the conclusion that it is necessary to hold regional competitions that unite the region as a single system. We decided to hold contests in Wikipedia in the languages of the Caucasus (Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Russian, Lezgi, Chechenian and etc.). Competition will be held in other languages that don't belong to the Caucasus region, they will composes an international level. The theme of the first competition will be the topic of GLAM. This year our international competition will be held within a month. Within a month, content will be created in all participating Wikipedia.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

Competition page was created in all participating projects (see Georgian, Russian, Azerbaijani, Lezgian, Chechen, Ossetian and Erzya page) and when the project begins we will, through the central notification, preempt all Wikipedia visitors about the project. Also, through our official accounts in social networks (kawiki Facebook, UG-GE Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), we will attract new members and warn them about our project.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

Yes.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

All existing Wikipedia participants have all the necessary skills and technical devices to participate in the competition. New participants if they do not have the necessary skills, we will help them to conduct lessons for them and those participants, who will not have technical adaptations: the Central Library of the Tbilisi State University makes it possible to use both the Internet and computers for free. Participants in other languages of Wikipedia also have all the skills and access to the Internet.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We try to hold many thematic contests, so the editors are free to take part in our projects.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project is important for us, as it aims to develop small Wikipedia in the Caucasian languages and also to attract more contributors to Wikimedia projects. In addition, our competition aims to rally the wiki-community of the Caucasus.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events: 7 (languages)
  2. Number of participants: 30-40
  3. Number of new editors: 5-10
  4. Number of of articles created or improved: 50 (per Wikipedia); in total ~ 200-250
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): –
