Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of participants:20+ 16 23 registered participants were engaged in the other two projects (WLE and W4HR) projects that ran in parallel with this project.
Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 300+ 272+ articles were written Photos from English Wikipedia articles (for those articles that had photos) were reused into the translated Swahili articles. The Category for the articles created is here
Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects: 100+ 250+ photos was re-used on Swahili Wikipedia The goal was met

Note: Although the primary goal was to capture photos and upload them to Wikimedia Commons, the time factor limited us on organizing those photo hunts, and the capturing of photos to some areas such as national Demarcations needed some legal processes. Hence as per the project scope that aimed at improving the statistics of content about Africa on Wikipedia and its sister projects, we chose to write articles and re-use the available photos from Wikimedia commons into Swahili Wikipedia.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
Given that it was the first time implementing thi project, we were happy to see people interested with it.
Internet support helped people to engage well in online participation on contributing to Swahili Wikipedia.
  • What did not work so well?
Capturing photos for the National Demarcations needed special permission and needed us to be a legal organizational entity.

Due to that the project started a bit late, it was not possible to organize photo hunts to notable to Geographical Endowments

  • What would you do differently next time?
Bold textWe have already started some steps to register our User group so we widen the range of doing different projects in our country.
