The activities on the projects of the wikimedia foundation are concentrated for the most part in the south of Benin, notably in Cotonou and Abomey-Calavi. The goal of this Wiki Tours is to sensitize the other localities of Benin more precisely those of the north of the country to the projects of the foundation. This project will essentially consist in traveling to three localities in Benin: Parakou, Kandi and Malanville and to make discover Wikipedia and its associated projects to secondary students in this part of the country. The activities will take place in the computer rooms of the schools from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm

Project Goal[edit]

  1. Offline promotion of Wikimedia project(s)/campaign(s)
  • We want to involve the population of North Benin, in particular pupils and students, in contributing to the Wikimedia projects
  • To involve them in the long term, we will encourage them to create wiki clubs in their schools
  • We will provide them Kiwix offline Wikipedia dumps so they could access free content offline

The object is to organize three days of training in each locality..

  • Kandi - three trainings and edit-a-thons. 15 ; 16; 17 December 2021
  • Malanville - three trainings and edit-a-thons. 10; 11; 12; January 2021
  • Djougou - three trainings and edit-a-thons. 5; 6; 7; February 2021

What do you plan to do after your campaign ends?

We will teach the participants of this Wiki Tours to use their discussion pages so that, between editathons and after the tours, their recents changes will be monitored and feedback posted on their talk pages.

This project especially allow to increase the number of contributors and to have quality articles on wikipedia

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

  1. 3 Wiki Cubs
  2. 18 new articles
  3. Upload 60 pictures to Wikimedia Commons
  4. 15 new active editors
  5. Increase in pageviews for a Wikimedia project: Internet access in the north of Benin is of lesser quality than in the south, so we will provide them with kiwix so that they can have access to wikipedia offline. This will help them not only in their learning but also when they want to write articles or improve them.

We have experienced wikipedians who are ready to accompany us, but we have already contacted the heads of the schools who assure us of their support. They are:

  1. The College of General Education 1 of Kandi,
  2. The Mathieu Bouké high school in Parakou,
  3. The College of General Education 1 of Malanville,

We will also provide sanitary protection kits such as hydroalcolic gel and masks to all participants and ensure strict compliance with safety standards
