Project Goal[edit]

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

The Wikimedia Ghana User Group wants to update the already existing Parliamentary constituencies in Ghana to its current status. We want to fix this through organization of events to improve content by linking Members of Parliament to their respective Constituencies, the election results of the previous and the current Members of Parliament and add quality content to the articles. The project will be led by Roysandytei who will find and gather documents from the appropriate quarters to help in the content update. Four different workshops will be organized where existing editors can join in the content improvement. The focus will be on English Wikipedia.

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

I (Roysandytei) will visit the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the Parliament house and Citifm (Ghana) library to request for books and documents which has the full updated list of Parliamentary constituencies in Ghana and the respective Members of Parliament from previous governments till date. I will group which Parliamentary constituencies in Ghana needs update on a Meta-wiki page for members to follow till the project is over and all articles under the Parliamentary Constituencies of Ghana are updated. I will need time to put all the gathered information together before any event is organized.       I will visit and use the co working space offered the User Group at Impact Hub to gather and prepare documents for the members to aid in the updates of the articles. I will do these tasks between the hours of 9am – 3pm from Mondays to Fridays.
Public holidays are not included for ten (10) working days. I will together with the group organize four workshops (for existing editors only) to update the articles. Based on the previous project, these should be limited to existing and experienced editors only.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

If our grant proposal is successful, the mailing list for the members of the Wikimedian community in Ghana will be informed. The user group will also publicize the program via its social media pages. Impact Hub has a mailing list and social media pages where we will invite existing editors anywhere to join in.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

By the end of the project we would have updated about 210 articles

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

  1. Number of total participants : 15 participants for each event over four workshops plus the project leader.
  2. Number of articles created or improved (if applicable) : At least 210 articles will be updated on the main page of Parliamentary constituencies in Ghana. We will track our impact via the program's outreach dashboard
  3. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable)
  4. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects (if applicable)
