Project idea

[edit]What problem are you trying to solve by doing this project? This problem should be small enough that you expect it to be completely or mostly resolved by the end of this project.

For a long time, various projects in the Wikimedia family have been underrepresented. This is due, in principle, to the great interest that volunteers, chapters, thematic organizations and user groups have placed in the projects with the greatest scope (Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata).
The result of this is that very few language communities manage to comply with their objectives. Although they receive momentum as soon as a new language or project is born, it is exhausted after a few months or years as the focus is once again returned to the projects already developed.
When this happens, the linguistic community is reduced when noticing that they do not receive enough support, and, slowly, their hope to shine is extinguished little by little, until the project or there are vestiges of said community that try to do what they can so that the project continues, or, is dominated by spambots.
Using statswikimedia, we'll obtain the data of some projects that justify the existence of this request.

From our previous grants (SpanishWikivoyageContest and NewsVoyage) know that if the problem is not observed before taking any action, there will be nothing productive. The duty to observe each community and the duty to support our ideas based on what they need and not make ideas just to fulfill.
Each project has something to offer, they have the right to shine and, above all, they have potential.

Wikimedia Small Projects User Group seeks to exploit the potential of each project, so that they can offer their contribution to the world and can shine. For this, it is of great interest that the communities of each linguistic version be known in depth: their problems, their possible solutions and that, based on all this, we can disseminate each project with the purpose that it can be better known and that more volunteers, chapters, thematic organizations and user groups can see that not only Wikimedia is made up of Wikipedia, Commons and Wikidata, but that there are more projects and that with a little support, all communities and all projects can support each other as only one.
In general lines: Through a grant from the Wikimedia Foundation, it is planned to hold a series of events and, above all, to obtain feedback from each linguistic community of each Wikipedia sister project to learn about problems, possible solutions and potential ideas. This being insufficient, we also want each project to have scope and diffusion.
Project goals
[edit]What are your goals for this project? Your goals should describe the top two or three benefits that will come out of your project. These should be benefits to the Wikimedia projects or Wikimedia communities. They should not be benefits to you individually.

For greater organization, this project will be divided into phases. Each language community will be in groups that will pass the phase as soon as it is determined that the objectives for that group have been met.
Our main goal is a complete investigation about how the small projects succeed, fail and possible forms to get support from Wikimedia Foundation and/or affiliates.
In the final report, we'll get a complete investigation with our recommendations about small projects.
We expect new editors in each community and try to encourage other Wikimedia affiliates to participate in them.
Project impact
[edit]How will you know if you have met your goals?
[edit]For each of your goals, we’d like you to answer the following questions:
- During your project, what will you do to achieve this goal? (These are your outputs.)
- Once your project is over, how will it continue to positively impact the Wikimedia community or projects? (These are your outcomes.)
For each of your answers, think about how you will capture this information. Will you capture it with a survey? With a story? Will you measure it with a number? Remember, if you plan to measure a number, you will need to set a numeric target in your proposal (i.e. 45 people, 10 articles, 100 scanned documents).

The project will be successful if:
- Expect new wikimedians who will be able to continue adding and improving contents later on, Definition of "new wikimedians" are new global accounts and/or participate in any group. If a editor meets one or the two criteria would be considered a new wikimedian,
- Created or significantly improved the quality of articles in each group in. We expected a increase of 30% more in the article bytes,
- Five or six contests held during the project.
When the project is over, it will continue to positively impact the Wikimedia movement. In particular, we expect that:
- The participants of each contest will continue to contribute from time to time,
- Interest of Wikimedia affiliates, inspired by our project, in continue to organize (or collaborate with us) activities to increase the visibility of projects.

Community engagement

- Support It's diffucult to bring up a small wiki and support the local community. I am aware of all these problems as one of the founders of Wikivoyage. All the small projects do have a home at the Wikimedia Foundation but mostly on a technical base and using the infrastructure. And the big foundation can not focus on them all. It would be very useful to have a group of users who focus on smaller wikis, analyze their community and develop a plan how to promote them and make them better known to the public outside the Wikimedia world. -- DerFussi 17:15, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
