Existe muy poca documentación de monumentos históricos venezolanos en Wikimedia Commons. Venezuela cuenta con una riqueza y diversidad de arquitectura moderna y colonial. Caracas fue una de las ciudades más modernas de América Latina[1], pero ni siquiera se encuentra listada en la categoría Architecture of Venezuela by City[2] y sólo cuenta con 174 edificios dentro de la categoría Buildings in Caracas[3].
Asimismo, la ciudad de Coro, patrimonio mundial de la Humanidad por la Unesco[4], y una de las primeras ciudades coloniales de América, no se encuentra listada en las ciudades bajo la categoría de Arquitectura Colonial en Venezuela[5], aun cuando cuenta con más de 600 edificios históricos.
Bajo la categoría de Arquitectura en Venezuela[6] únicamente se encuentran 64 archivos; en Arquitectura colonial de Venezuela[7], 46 archivos.
Esta cantidad de archivos representa menos de 1% de la cantidad de sitios históricos patrimoniales que se encuentra en Venezuela. Como referencia se cuenta el registro obtenido del I Censo del Patrimonio Cultural Venezolano[8], realizado por el Instituto de Patrimonio Cultural de Venezuela entre 2004 y 2010. De allí salieron libros de los 334 municipios del país, con un promedio de 250 registros de bienes de interés cultural por libro, de los cuales, alrededor de 25% son de arquitectura. Es decir, que existen más de 20 000 edificaciones patrimoniales o de interés cultural en Venezuela.
En la organización de preservación y protección de patrimonio cultural IAM Venezuela[9] que nosotros coordinamos hemos visto una creciente necesidad de encontrar información sobre bienes culturales locales. Actualmente la página web, en la que hemos desarrollado un registro público de más de 800 bienes patrimoniales, cuenta con un tráfico de 30 mil visitantes mensuales.

Proponemos una combinación de actividades de capacitación en la metodología de Wikipedia junto con eventos de edit-a-thons. Los haremos con personas de diferentes ciudades de Venezuela que puedan ayudarnos a agregar 800 fotos relacionadas sobre edificios y monumentos patrimoniales. Aprovecharemos algunos de los contenidos/fotos ya realizados por los fotógrafos e investigadores de nuestra organización IAM Venezuela y los editaremos con los criterios de Wikipedia.
Las actividades de capacitación incluirán la escritura, revisión, asignación de metadata y subida de contenidos a Wikimedia y Wikipedia.

1) Subir a Wikimedia Commons 800 imágenes de edificios y esculturas de Venezuela.
Luego de un primer trimestre de entrenamiento, investigación y catalogación de las imágenes de edificios y estatuaria venezolana, en los tres trimestres subsiguientes iremos subiendo a Wikimedia un aproximado de 270 imágenes por trimestre.
2) Capacitar a 30 personas con los criterios de Wikimedia. Gracias a los talleres de entrenamiento y los edit-a-thons, 30 personas podrán trabajar en la catalogación de contenidos en español. Esto ayudará a mejorar la cantidad de registros en español de Wikimedia Commons.
3) Incrementar las contribuciones a proyectos Wikimedia Compartir estas imágenes con la comunidad Wikimedia estimulará a otros Wikipedistas venezolanos a participar para enriquecer los contenidos de nuestro país en Wikimedia. Otros proyectos de la comunidad Wikimedia podrán valerse también de estas imágenes para potenciar sus contenidos.

IAM Venezuela ya cuenta con más de 900 sitios patrimoniales en Venezuela investigados y fotografiados entre 2015 y 2018. Contamos con más de 1500 fotografías de estos lugares y monumentos. Utilizaremos parte de este contenido de base para migrarlo a Wikimedia según la arquitectura Wiki.
Fases
El éxito se podrá medir si el equipo logra: Entrenamiento: A través de la realización de talleres de entrenamiento en el trabajo editorial de Wikimedia para investigadores y fotógrafos, se logra consolidar un equipo de 30 personas que puedan reclasificar y subir contenidos en Wikimedia.
Edit-a-thons: Mediante la organización de tres edit-a-thons, se logra el ajuste y la reclasificación de 300 imágenes a Wikimedia.
Revisión y corrección de la metadata subida a Wikimedia.
Seguimiento A partir de cada edit-a-thon, se continuará con un grupo de voluntarios la subida y reclasificación de imágenes, a razón de 270 registros por trimestre. Se hará seguimiento de las personas involucradas a través de herramientas de Social Media, creación de foros de intercambio de información y grupos cerrados de contacto.

Se contactará a los líderes de la comunidad para ubicar voluntarios interesados en participar en el proyecto. También se realizarán contactos con las escuelas de arquitectura, de arte, historia y de comunicación social de las universidades venezolanas para invitar a los estudiantes a participar en talleres y edit-a-thones. Se utilizarán las redes sociales para comunicar los avances del proyecto y sus resultados.

This amount that is being requested for this project seems excessive to me, without considering that these people are alien to our chapter. In this sense, I agree with Willicab and Jamez42. - Support This is a great and very needed project. IAM Venezuela is a very serious organization. We have followed the many workshops they have led in the country in alliance with museums and universities in the last years. I don't see why the amount requested seems excessive for some people if the project provides 800 original pictures from different cities of the country. - Support El patrimonio cultural venezolano se encuentra en estos momentos en estado vulnerable. Las mafias del bronce, por ejemplo, han destruido gran parte de la estatuaria broncínea patrimonial del país, por lo que el trabajo de registro y difusión de ese patrimonio se hace hoy perentorio. - Support El patrimonio en Venezuela siempre ha necesitado defensores e investigadores organizados que puedan hacer frente a la desinformación que existe sobre el verdadero valor que tienen para los ciudadanos, para el país y para el mundo. IAM Venezuela lleva años en esta labor y, además, suman a esta tarea la denuncia sobre el deplorable estado en el que muchas obras y construcciones patrimoniales están. No veo una organización mejor que ellos para llevar a cabo esta idea de capacitar personal, seleccionar y editar la documentación que debería estar online disponible para todos a través de Wikimedia. - Oppose Reading carefully the arguments of those who support this initiative, I can only say one thing: the lack of experience in Projects associated with Wikimedia and the disconnection with the reality of the movement is evident. It has not yet been understood that the basis of this is the VOLUNTARY work of the members. Moreover, there is already an initiative within the movement that meets the primary objective of this project: Wiki Loves Monuments (which in its edition of 2017 in Venezuela collected about 1300 images, according to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2017_in_Venezuela) ... What would happen if each chapter or usergroup requested $ 28,000 to make the contest? Well, there would only have been ONE edition! Another example was Wikiviajes por Venezuela, which collected more than 13,000 images in Commons ... and only $ 300 was invested! And, if we talk about training of wikimedians, we've done more than 20 editatons in the last 5 years without even asking for a cent! And for those who have requested Grants, the sum in less than 10% of what is required for this project. Thus, the evidence indicates that it does not take such an amount of money to collect quality images or train new (or potential) wikimedians. Another argument seen in these endorsements is "Unfortunately, it appears that these negative comments on this idea respond to the political polarization of the country". Who thinks like that has no idea of the objectives of the movement and less knows the idiosyncrasy of those who work in this job in Venezuela. I believe, firmly, in the work that we have been doing in the country. I believe in initiatives to spread knowledge (and to create it!). But I do not think that it takes much money for it, but more work together. And this is said by someone who worked developing projects for Wikimedia in Venezuela and has voluntarily worked in the formation, growth and dissemination of the wiki philosophy in our country.
