As a former Google Summer of Code Student(GSoC), Google Code-In mentor with the Wikimedia Foundation and MediaWiki contributor I would be actively engaging and sharing my experiences I gained through these programs at the event. I previously talked about my work MediaWiki work as a speaker at the 'Decade of GSoC' celebration held at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka organized by Google Inc. to commemorate 10 years of GSoC and being the university with the single highest number of students in the program worldwide. Apart from that I have spoken at university level workshops and helped students interested in MediaWiki development get started and apply for the program. Therefore I hope to keep spreading the message at the Google Summer of Code reunion as well.
Goal and expected impact
The Wikimedia Foundation has been an active participant in the Google Summer of Code program for many years and through the program many new contributors to MediaWiki have been born. I believe my participation will stand testament to the commitment the Wikimedia Foundation has made to the program and also recognize the many opportunities available to MediaWiki hackers. Furthermore Google is providing only a handful of opportunities (220 out of 14000 past GSoCers) to attend the GSoC reunion and I have been lucky to receive a slot among them. Therefore my participation will also strengthen the Wikimedia representation at the GSoC reunion to celebrate 10 years of the program.
