Proposed participation[edit]

I with User:Venca24 are going to lead a Wikipedia workshop during JES, a youth Esperanto-language event in Polland. We are going to use the proven formula for Ideal workshop developed by Wikimedia Poland, which will help people to internalize the wiki behavior, mindsets and hard skills by facilitating to find them themselves. After that initialization we will assist the participants in their editing (we are going to address mostly non-editors and low activity editors).

The main organiser already declared help for the Wikipedia workshop and pledged to provide us good time without time conflicts in the official program.

The participants of the event JES are mostly young people from Europe, pioniers and early adopters of social affairs. They come from various (mostly Europe) countries with various language background and all are at least bilingual.

PS: We have considered a photowalk and uploading to Commons instead (there are number of notable objects in Szczecin without photo on Commons), but the event is supposed to have tight timeframe so we decided for the Wikipedia workshop. Maybe, depending on local conditions and available time we can make a photowalk additionally.

Goal and expected impact[edit]

All the particpants of the event JES (estimated to be up to 300 persons) will be informed about the Wikipedia and specifically about the workshop on various occasions (website, program book, posters). Number of people will participate the workshop and will have their first steps in Wikipedia. Thanks to the specific schema of the workshop, participant will naturally "discover" the Wikipedia work (in contrast to learning it from teacher) what will boost their self-esteem about Wikipedia / Wikimedia projects work.

The desired outcome is new active editors in various language versions of Wikipedia.

Budget breakdown[edit]

  • Participation fee: 40 EUR
    • the regular fee (for my age and date of registering) is 50 EUR but the organisers provide discount for program contributors
