Proposed participation[edit]

I am an active third-party MediaWiki user, Wikimedian and a MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group member. I work with Semantic MediaWiki for a number of years and I need to know how we can help Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) to improve the software and how we can improve WikiTranslate.

I work with the MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group and I believe that attendance at SMWCon will help us and other wikis around the world to actively join the conversation and gain the knowledge on how people are using SMW.

Goal and expected impact[edit]

I would like to make a presentation on how WikiTranslate is using Semantic MediaWiki to further learning of foreign languages and get some feedback from the community on how we can help to further develop MediaWiki and the greater Wikimedia community.

Budget breakdown[edit]

  • Travel (round trip airfare from London, UK to Barcelona): £120
  • Accommodation; £120 (Air BnB - x 4 nights (plus £22 fee) = £142

Endorsements[edit]

  • Natasha is not only an active member of the MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group but also using the MediaWiki software and related extensions in a very innovative way. Wikitranslate is exploring as well as implementing new methods of easily learning foreign languages. Language transports knowledge and information and that's what Wikimedia projects are all about. It's very well worth spreading information about this project and allow a look behind the scenes. [[kgh]] (talk) 18:42, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
  • I've been involved on the technical side of Wikitransate -- implementing MediaWiki and its extensions -- but not so involved on the front-end side. Since I've seen the site grow, I'm interested to see how they've used a wiki to enable language learning and to see what lessons they've learned. As Kghbln said, using a wiki as the primary platform for teaching is fairly innovative and it would be interesting to see how much more of that could translate to other realms of knowledge. -- MarkAHershberger(talk) 14:28, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
