Budget breakdown[edit]

As I am young (20 years old) and no other Indian is traveling with me from India to attend WikiWomenCamp, I would not be able to attend the camp without the help of a guardian. If funded, this would be my first trip to abroad, and I would not be able to manage traveling alone in a foreign country. Presently, I am requesting funding for myself and my guardian to attend the Camp. I will be able to do without the guardian if another participant of the camp is willing to travel with me. In the event of another person traveling from India, I would be able to work up a travel plan together with the person and reduce the expenses needed for a guardian.

  • Travel :

Rs. 5,548 per head for economy class round trip from CCJ to BOM and back via Jetlite domestic Airlines x 2

Rs. 86,781 per head for economy class round trip from BOM to EZE and back via Lufthansa Airlines x 2

  • Accomodation :

Accommodation at a budget hotel in the city : Rs. 2500 per night x 3 nights = Rs. 7500. May possibly get cheap accommodation through the camp in which case the expenses will be lower.

  • Food :

Rs. 0. Expenses for the food shall be borne by me. The organizers are giving food at the venue free of cost.

  • Visa:

Rs. 6000 per head from CCJ to DEL for economy class round trip x 2 to attend visa interview. Rest of the expenses for VISA will be borne by me.

  • Total:

Rs. 98,329 x 2 plus Rs. 7500 = Rs. 204,158. I am a medical student with no earnings of my own, so I would like to get the funding in advance. Delay in booking the flight tickets would cause the travel expenses to be higher than that is mentioned in this application.

Proposed Participation[edit]

I have been an active Wikimedian since May 2010. I have been editing women's biographies and articles related to gendergap in ml and en wikipedias. I have conducted and participated in outreach programs targeting women from colleges and schools. As an Online Ambassador for India Education Program, I have helped many women editors and Campus ambassadors to participate to Wikiprojects. As a medical student, I have been involved in providing medical care for women via the Women's club in my locality. Participating in WikiWomenCamp would be a great opportunity to share my experience in working with women in India. At the Camp, I would be able to learn the experiences of other women who are active in outreach activities. If permission is granted, I will talk on the topic "Gendergap in Indic Wikiprojects and strategies to overcome it".

Goal and Expected Impact[edit]

I would like to meet women editors from other countries and chapters to gather experience on their roles in Wikiprojects. I would write about my experiences and share these with my women colleagues, with Wikimedia India mailing lists and on my personal blogs in Malayalam and English. I would conduct a North Kerala tour at my cost and halt in as many colleges and schools as possible and teach the women students to edit Wikipedia in their mother tongues. I would also take initiative in starting Wikimedia clubs in colleges to promote women participation in Wikiprojects. In a country like India, women editors can create more impact among women than men. So my role as an educator would help Indian language Wikipedias have more women editors. The knowledge sharing done after the event will help with planning for the future for outreach activities among women in India, and hopefully help inspire other Indian women to do more on a local level.
