Welcome back from Wikimania 2017! Work in progress

Participant[edit]

Pymouss

French Wikipedia, but also very active on Wikimedia Commons and on Wikidata

Outcome[edit]

Along with Kvardek du and VIGNERON, we led a workshop named "Transl-a-thon: Wikidata in your language". Despite the fact a lot of people seemed to be interested, we had a quite low attendance (around 15 people). For that reason, we didn't reach our goal that was to work by groups on three different aspects (translation, resolving conflicts, and building a conceptual tree). The fact is that we just focused on level 1 (translating properties and qualifiers). We had a great help from Envlh that developed a very useful tool, "Transl-a-thon", that identifies terms needing a translation in a specific language.

Option 1: Shared Experience: Back in Rennes, we're continuing to organize workshops on Wikidata, especially with GLAM (Les Champs Libres and Museum of Brittany during European Heritage Days 2017), and a workshop is to come with Museum of Saint-Brieuc. We are also planning workshops for contributors, and especially Wikipedia contributors, but it won't take place before WikidataConv in Berlin, where I'll have a talk.

Connections[edit]

Except of the talk I gave, I attended in other talk on Wikidata and took part in the Wikidata meetup on Saturday night. These events were for me a great opportunity to meet people involved in Wikidata and interested in the same thing (for example, politics) on the project.

Wikimania was also an opportunity for us, French wikimedians, to feel a real strong support from the community as our local chapter did encounter a strong crisis. I thing that sharing our feelings with members of other chapters did help everybody to understand that French wikimedians were really involved the international community.

I still had great time with Canadian contributors, and especially with Atikamekw people. They are just doing a fantastic work on creating a wikipedia in their native language, and I think that their experience could be very helpful for other Wikipedias in minority languages.
