Grants:TPS/Sahaquiel9102/Encuentro Regional de Lenguas Indígenas
This Wikimedia Participation Support request was funded in the fiscal year 2014-15. A report is available.
Proposed participation
[edit]In 2015 I asked for a grant to participate in a national gathering of digital activists in indigenous languages. This time the gathering is focused to indigenous speakers of the region of Cauca Department. Thanks to my participation in 2015, I was invited again to give a talk about Wikipedia and Wikimedia Projects, and how indigenous speakers could use those projects to protect their language and at the same time create (Free) Knowledge.
Engage indigenous speakers in Wikimedia Projects is very important our user group (Wikimedistas de Colombia), it fits with the Mission of the WM (multilingual projects) and will help me to continue my work with indigenous communities.
Goal and expected impact
[edit]I hope to engage them to use and edit Wikipedia, and open a Wikipedia in their own languages. And also strengthen the relationships I made in the last meeting in Bogotá, in 2015.

[edit]Endorsements
[edit]- Racso ¿¿¿??? 20:49, 29 December 2016 (UTC) - I endorse this grant request. Juan's work with indigenous languages interests our user group for several reasons, including the possibilities of letting indigenous communities to know about free knowledge and the Wikimedia Projects, and strengthening our bonds with cultural networks such as Global Voices.
- As one of the co-organizers of the activity, I appreciate Juan Sebastian's continued interest and commitment to supporting greater participation by indigenous communities in Wikimedia projects. He took part in a previous activity in Bogotá in 2015, which helped lay the groundwork for this working relationship between Wikimedians of Colombia and the indigenous language digital activism initiative. We value this outreach collaboration and endorse the request. Barrioflores (talk) 13:59, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
