Asturian Wikipedia (ast.wiki)

- Option 1: Shared Experience:
Although I have edited for eleven years (and applied for a scholarship for two times) this was my very first Wikimania and was also the first in which an Asturian Wikipedia was present at an event outside of Spain. For this reason, I have tried to make known what we do in our little language and relate to projects similar to ours since the pre-conference. I attended the Scan-a-thon and Canadian Women Edit-a-thon at BAnQ-Vieux where I wrote some articles about Canadian Women and I went to the National Archive of Quebec and participated in the First Nations edit-o-thon. I wrote the article on the Atikamekw people on ast.wiki. In the Library of McGill University Jaluj and I were researching about Inuit women to implement it in the future in our project.
I loved specially the project of Lingua Libre: Massive Open Audio Recording for which I want to make available the word "Asturian" in all possible languages.
During the next days I mainly attended talks about minority languages. As we are a very small community, during the event as well as uploading information to Twitter I kept other active users informed about the contacts I was having and how they could help us in the future.
As a member of Wikimedia España I offered, with other colleagues from WMES, information about the Chapter to the people who came to it.
Connections[edit]
Despite being a member of Wikimedia España since 2014 there were still members who did not know not to match in any event or, as in the case of some users, live outside the country as is the case of Jaluj and Ezarate' (Argentine), Ivanhercaz and Santamarcanda (Canary Islands) or User:Góngora (Norway). We had a lot of talks about Wikipedia in Spanish and our problems, about Wikimedia Spain and about Iberocoop and our contests. We were thinking about many new projects. I didn'not him and I also could know Montgomery.
One of my first offline experiences with Wikimedia Community was with the Catalan community and I love their language, so I especially liked being able to share experiences and conversations with people from Catalonia like Quim Gill (WMF) or Lluis tgn (Amical Wikimedia). With Lluis I knew his opinion about the necessary austerity of the Foundation's spending and activities with institutions that could be carried out in our community.
In the poster session I spoke with Jason.nlw (Cy Wikipedia) and I got to know firsthand his work like Wikimedian in Residence in National Library of Wales. It was awesome! I also had the opportunity to publicize my project in the Asturian rural area, which I hope to develop in the future, to people from other parts of the world who saw it as very interesting, like NickK from Ukrainian community or Nihat Valizada (Azerbaijan) with whom I also keep in touch to do joint activities.
Thanks to Dbudell and his Wikitongues project I was able to give an interview in Asturian languages to share it with all the world.
I also met Remux from Colombia and we talk about different projects that we could do, specially about Asturias with another member of Wikimedia Colombia, Sahaquiel9102, a colombian asturspeaking.
With Jaluj, member of Wikimedia Argentina too, we decided to do an activity together in both languages, Spanish and Asturian, about canadian women.
Without underestimate all the people that I have named, I was particularly excited about the meeting that Wikimedia Basque user group (Theklan and Iñaki LL) set up about minority languages to coordinate and see how we can grow our projects and make them visible in the global and local community. I am sure that in the future we will see very interesting results of this work in Asturian, Basque, Catalan, Eastern European languages, Estonian and Jamaican.
Anything else[edit]
It was an amazing experience to have the possibility of met people around the world with the same interests as I do. Also make known the situation of our minoritized language and see that with people like the wikimedians our local language is also global and have future.
Returning to Asturias, I gave an interview in the blog of Wikimedia España along with other chapter companions: [1]. Asturian media were also interested in my experience but the current political situation in Spain delayed its publication, which I hope will be in the next few days.
