Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Over the past month, international Wikimedia campaigns such as Wiki Loves Africa and Wiki Loves Ramadan attracted significant participation, with contributors uploading numerous photographs accompanied by descriptions primarily written in English. Additionally, the Wiki Loves Earth campaign is currently ongoing and will continue into the coming month, generating even more multimedia content.

To improve accessibility and representation of local languages, this project seeks to translate image descriptions from these campaigns into Yorùbá. By providing descriptions in both English and Yorùbá, the project will make the content more accessible to Yorùbá-speaking audiences, promote the use of indigenous languages within the Wikimedia movement, and enhance the discoverability and educational value of the uploaded images.

The initiative will focus on translating descriptions associated with photographs submitted during the Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Ramadan, and Wiki Loves Earth campaigns, thereby contributing to the preservation and visibility of the Yorùbá language in the digital knowledge ecosystem.
