Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/A Sulaiman Z/Wiki Loves Africa 2026: Documenting Hausa Cultural and Traditional Practices during Ramadan and Sallah in Jigawa
Project summary
[edit]Briefly summarize your project proposal.
This project will document and preserve the cultural and traditional practices of the Hausa people in Jigawa State, focusing on Ramadan and Sallah festivals. It will capture events such as Tashe, a Hausa tradition where boys and girls form gender-based groups, move house-to-house performing songs, dances, and traditional music, and receive gifts from households between the 10th and 28th days of Ramadan. The project will also cover Sallah preparations and celebrations, including those conducted by the Hausa Emirate of Hadejia. Participants will contribute photos, videos, and stories to Wikimedia Commons, helping share and preserve Hausa cultural heritage globally while training community members in digital documentation and Wikimedia contributions.
