The project will create awareness and train students of the College of Health Jahun on how to contribute to Fulfulde Wikipedia. It aims to promote local language content, improve digital skills, and encourage active participation in the Wikimedia movement through practical editing sessions and follow-up support.

The project will begin on 8th October 2025 and end on 30th October 2025. Activities will include planning, awareness campaign, training sessions, follow-up support, and final reporting within this period.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are planning to conduct a series of trainings and edit-a-thons to build skills and improve contributions to Fulfulde Wikipedia.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I have informed members of the Fulfulde Wikimedia community through our WhatsApp group and direct messages. I also shared the proposal with some experienced editors and community leads for feedback. Once the proposal is live on Meta, I plan to share it on relevant community platforms such as the Fulfulde Wikipedia Village Pump and Wikimedia Nigeria User Group channels.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

I will inform participants through multiple channels, including school notice boards, class WhatsApp groups, direct messages, and announcements during school gatherings. I will also create flyers and posters to increase awareness and provide regular updates via WhatsApp and email before and during the event.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead/assist the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse and sign your proposal as proof of availability)

User:Pharouqenr will assist this project as he is an experienced editor, currently serving as an administrator on Hausa Wikipedia and actively contributing to Fulfulde Wikipedia. He has served as a jury member for major Wikimedia photography contests including Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Folklore, and Wiki Loves Earth 2025 in Nigeria.

He is also an experienced facilitator, having led and supported several Wikimedia trainings, workshops, and edit-a-thons focused on local language content development. His facilitation work includes building capacity for new editors, providing technical support, and promoting awareness of Wikimedia projects within educational and cultural institutions.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Most participants may not have prior experience or the necessary skills. To support them, we will provide in-person training sessions, hands-on guidance, and printed or digital training materials. We will also give internet support and access to devices for those without. This will ensure everyone can contribute effectively.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

After the event, we will keep participants engaged through regular follow-up sessions, online group chats, and newsletters. We’ll encourage them to continue editing and contribute to related Wikimedia projects. We’ll also create a community forum where they can ask questions, share experiences, and receive ongoing support.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Yes, this project aims to empower underrepresented communities by providing access to knowledge and digital skills. It will help preserve and promote local languages and cultures through Wikimedia platforms. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages continuous learning and collaboration beyond the initial activities.

Metrics tracking

How do you plan to track your project metrics? (do not create a metrics dashboard until your project has been approved for funding) We will track project metrics using the Outreach Dashboard, which records participants’ edits, articles created or improved, and total contributions. We’ll also use attendance lists, feedback forms, and follow-up engagement to measure learning outcomes and participation.

Contest & prize-giving events

How would decide the winners of your contest (If you are going to have a contest, what is your scoring criteria) This project is not a contest. It is focused on creating awareness and building the capacity of new editors through training. Therefore, there will be no scoring or winner selection criteria. Instead, we will track participation, number of accounts created, and quality contributions made during and after the training.
